From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Follow the entrance directions below and bring proof of residency. You unload yourself, with staff help, so bring what you can handle. Closed legal holidays and bad weather.
A SAFE event is the better choice for mixed painting chemicals. Check the fall dates below, what’s taken and any limits before you go. Old spring dates and the September Manhattan date are over.
City sites refuse business waste and commercial vehicles. DSNY points businesses to PaintCare’s free pickup, starting at 100 gallons by can size. Set other chemicals aside so the request lists only PaintCare paint.
Take household latex paint to a DSNY Special Waste site, one per borough, 5 gallons per visit. Oil-based house paint goes to a PaintCare store or SAFE event; full spray cans go to a SAFE event. City pages disagree on oil paint and spray cans at weekly sites.
NYC has weekly city drop-offs, dated SAFE events and paint-only store drop-offs. Pick by product: city pages disagree on oil paint and full spray cans at weekly sites.
NYC311 sends oil paint and full spray cans to SAFE events; DSNY’s list is broader. Take oil house paint to a store that accepts it, or chemicals to a SAFE event. Ask 311 before relying on the weekly site.
Each card below gives directions. Several sites sit inside sanitation yards and are hard to see from the street. The address alone can put you on the wrong side of the yard.
Households can ask GreenSheen for a free pickup at 800-507-4200. PaintCare says both “more than ten” and “ten or more” gallons, so ask if you have exactly ten. The crew won’t go inside, and someone must be home.
Upcoming SAFE events: Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, October 11; Midland Beach Parking Lot 8, Staten Island, October 17; Orchard Beach, Bronx, October 24, 2026. All run 10 a.m.–4 p.m. PaintCare stores are another option. Got 100 gallons or more? PaintCare may pick it up for free.

Bring proof you live in NYC and sealed, labeled cans. Keep chemicals apart. Don’t set out cans for pickup until the crew confirms the items and date.
Full preparation checklist →No business waste. Rentals are allowed past the commercial-plate ban, but that doesn’t make contractor waste OK. Use PaintCare’s business options or a hazardous waste company.
No. DSNY and NYC311 both say Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Holiday and bad-weather closures still apply.
No. The September 20, 2026 Manhattan event is over. Use a weekly site or a later event that takes your items.
Don’t assume so. Thinner is on the SAFE list, so bring the mixed load to a SAFE event. Keep thinner apart from paint and tell staff what it is.
DSNY lists paint broadly; NYC311 excludes oil paint and full spray cans. We added no unsupported store or promise.
