Call Gervic on East Main Street or Sherwin-Williams on Route 211 East and bring up to 5 gallons. With up to 10 gallons, Werner's Ace in Florida takes the whole load in one trip.
Bring it all to Municipal Lot #2 in Highland Falls on Saturday, October 24, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with ID. Spray cans must still have product in them. Stores don't take spray cans or thinner.
Take house paint to a PaintCare store. Keep spray cans and solvents sealed and upright until the county posts its next date, or call 845-291-3246.
That's over PaintCare's 100-gallon minimum for a free pickup. PaintCare says businesses too big for its small-business limits can still use the pickup in New York for oil-based paint; contact PaintCare for details.
For house paint, call Gervic Paint & Decorating Center at 416 East Main Street or Sherwin-Williams at 303 Route 211 East; PaintCare lists both for up to 5 gallons a visit. For spray cans, thinner and other chemicals, Orange County's next free resident collection is Saturday, October 24, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., at Municipal Lot #2, 378 Main Street, Highland Falls. Middletown, in Orange County, New York, has no year-round hazardous waste drop-off. House paint goes to a PaintCare store, and spray cans, thinner and other chemicals wait for one of the county's collection days. The Poughkeepsie and Kingston guides cover Dutchess and Ulster counties; their events and rules don't apply here.
Orange County's hazardous waste pages name PaintCare stores in Monroe, Newburgh, Florida and Port Jervis. PaintCare's own locator also lists two in the city: Gervic Paint & Decorating Center, 416 E. Main St. (845-342-1079), and Sherwin-Williams, 303 Route 211 E. (845-344-4480), each 5 gallons a visit. For more, Werner's Ace Hardware in the Village of Florida takes 10.
The county called off its September 26 collection at Transfer Station #1, 21 Training Center Lane in New Hampton, because of a nor'easter. The next one is October 24 in Highland Falls, entered via Webb Lane. The county says it is holding four pairs of events around the county this fall and will post each next date only after the previous event has passed.
New Hampton's Transfer Station #1 is open Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–3 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–noon, and the county lists motor oil, antifreeze and car batteries among things residents can bring to its transfer stations. Paint isn't on those lists, so take it to a PaintCare store or a collection day instead.
The county says dried latex, acrylic and water-based paint can go in your trash container, and the October 24 flyer lists dried latex as something not to bring. You don't need to dry paint before taking it to a PaintCare store. The city DPW's 2026 spring clean-up notice said crews won't pick up hazardous waste; call the DPW office at 845-343-3169 with curbside questions.
Schools, farms, towns and businesses use a separate Friday event that needs registration. For October 23 in Highland Falls, forms were due October 9. Each participant can bring up to 220 pounds, fees depend on the amount, and paint is now on the list. A business that has closed still registers for Friday.
Sherwin-Williams at 303 Route 211 E. in Middletown is the other in-town PaintCare store. The county also lists Sherwin-Williams at 290 Larkin Drive in Monroe (845-492-4523), Sherwin-Williams at 1404 Route 300 in Newburgh (845-564-2539) and Neversink Lumber at 95 Jersey Avenue in Port Jervis (845-856-5161). PaintCare lists transfer stations near Wurtsboro and Monticello, but those are only for Sullivan County. With 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare for a free pickup.

Keep paint wet, in its original labeled can with the lid on tight. Stores won't take spray cans or leaking, empty or unlabeled cans. For October 24, bring ID with your Orange County address, keep it to household amounts, and load it in the back of your vehicle. Staff unload it while you stay in the car.
Full preparation checklist →Not a year-round one. Orange County holds collection days instead. The next resident event is Saturday, October 24, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., in Highland Falls. House paint can go to a PaintCare store any day it's open.
No. Orange County residents just bring a valid ID showing county residency. Only household amounts are accepted, and there's no shredding.
Not for a PaintCare store; the county says you don't need to dry it before you drop it off. If you'd rather dry it, the county says dried latex can go in your trash.
The city's 2026 spring clean-up notice said DPW won't pick up hazardous waste. Call the DPW office at 845-343-3169 about your own pickup.
No. Businesses use the county's Friday events, which need registration and charge by amount. A PaintCare store takes house paint from businesses, and oil-based paint has PaintCare's small-business limits.
October 16, 2026: read Orange County's Hazardous Waste, Events for County Residents, business (CESQG) event, Environmental Facilities & Services and Transfer Stations pages in a browser (scripts are blocked), and read the county's October 24 Highland Falls flyer (PDF). Read PaintCare's New York, large-volume pickup and business-limits pages, PaintCare locator data for Middletown and nearby towns, and the City of Middletown's 2026 spring clean-up alert. The county's paint store list doesn't include the two Middletown stores; PaintCare's locator does. Werner's Ace address: PaintCare says 8 N Main St, the county says 8-10. The October 24 event and the October 23 business event must be put in the past tense after they happen. We didn't open the county's latex paint PDF, and we didn't check store hours. No City of Middletown paint page was found.
