Start with these

South Hobbs Convenience and Recycle Center (City of Hobbs with WM; dry paint only)

3000 East Marland, Hobbs, NM 88240

Accepts
Paint only if it is completely dry in its container. Also cardboard, mixed paper, newspaper, aluminum, clear plastic and metal. The flyer says accepted items may change with market needs.
Who can use it
No commercial or industrial dumping, such as landscaping or construction materials. The flyer doesn't say whether people who live outside Hobbs may use it.
Hours
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (city home page and flyer).
Load limits
No fresh or wet paint. Tree limbs must be trimmed to 4-foot bundles of no more than 50 lbs (the flyer says there's no chipper here, unlike the North Hobbs facility). Appliances with refrigerant must be serviced first.
Fees
Not published on the flyer or the city's home page.

No batteries of any size and no tires. The flyer doesn't say whether dried oil-based paint is handled the same as dried latex, so ask WM at 575-964-5334. NMED's 2022 registry lists this site as the Hobbs Recycle and Convenience Center at 3000 East Marland Road, with a different contact number (575-392-0428).

Lea County Convenience Center, North Hobbs (Lea County Environmental Services; no liquid paint)

4401 W. Business Park Blvd., Hobbs, NM 88242

Accepts
Lea County residents' household materials: yard trimmings, furniture and mattresses, demolition material, wood, sheetrock and carpet, passenger tires, tree limbs, appliances with Freon removed, metal, and 2 pallets per day. Recyclables: limbs, metal, tires, corrugated cardboard, batteries and used motor oil.
Who can use it
Lea County residents' household materials only. Commercial, business, contractor and landscaper loads go to the landfill in Eunice.
Hours
Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Remaining 2026 holiday closures on the county page: November 11 (Veterans Day), November 26 (Thanksgiving) and December 25 (Christmas).
Load limits
2 pallets per day. The county lists no paint limit because liquid paint is refused.
Fees
Free to the public (county page).

The county's no list includes paint, stains, paint thinner, solvents, liquids, hazardous materials, characteristic hazardous waste and 'Paint Liquid Form.' The county page places it west of Halliburton at 4401 Business Park Boulevard; NMED's 2022 registry gives 4401 W. Business Park Blvd., Hobbs, NM 88242. The same rules apply at the county's Lovington, Monument, Knowles and Maljamar centers. Phone numbers differ: the county page gives 575-391-2953, and NMED's 2022 registry lists 575-391-2936 for this center.

Lea County Landfill (Lea County Solid Waste Authority, Eunice; refuses hazardous waste and free liquids)

3219 E State Highway 176, Eunice, NM 88231

Accepts
Residential, commercial, special, public and private waste, and tires for recycling. Special wastes only if pre-approved as solid non-hazardous waste and properly manifested. Paint is not named.
Who can use it
The authority's members are Lea County and the cities of Eunice, Hobbs, Jal and Lovington and the Town of Tatum. The county's convenience centers send commercial, business, contractor and landscaper loads here.
Hours
Monday to Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (standard time) and 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (daylight saving time); last load 30 minutes before closing. Closed Sundays, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Load limits
No more than 10 tires per load unless shredded or manifested. Appliances with refrigerant need a certification sticker from an HVAC specialist.
Fees
$34 per ton. No debit or credit cards, and no $50 or $100 bills.

Not accepted: characteristic hazardous waste (ignitable, corrosive, toxic, reactive), listed hazardous wastes, bulk or free liquids, hot wastes, infectious waste, incinerator ash, septage and intact bulk containers. NMED's May 2025 landfill list gives the address as 3219 E. State Road 234, Eunice (5 miles east of Eunice); the county page says State Highway 176. Call before you go.

Which option fits your Hobbs cleanout?4
02

Thinner, stain and an old can of oil-based paint

Don't take these to the county's North Hobbs or Lovington centers; their refused list names thinner, stains, solvents and liquid paint. The Eunice landfill refuses hazardous waste and free liquids. No Lea County option was found, so call NMED's Hazardous Waste Bureau at 505-476-6000.

03

You live in Lovington, Tatum or out in the county

The county centers are free for Lea County households, but none takes paint. South Hobbs is a City of Hobbs and WM site, and its flyer doesn't say whether people outside Hobbs can use it. Ask WM at 575-964-5334 before you drive in with dried paint.

04

A painting contractor or oilfield business with leftover paint

South Hobbs bans commercial dumping, and the county centers send contractors to the Eunice landfill. The landfill refuses hazardous waste and free liquids and takes special waste only if it's pre-approved as non-hazardous and manifested. Call 575-394-9109, and NMED at 505-476-6000 with hazardous waste questions.

Hobbs rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

In Hobbs, New Mexico, take paint to the South Hobbs Convenience and Recycle Center at 3000 East Marland (Thursday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) only after it's completely dry in the can; wet paint is refused. Lea County's convenience centers and the Eunice landfill don't take liquid paint either. No source reviewed names a Lea County drop-off for liquid or oil-based paint or thinner, so ask NMED's Hazardous Waste Bureau at 505-476-6000.

This guide is for Hobbs in Lea County, New Mexico. NMED's 2025 list of household hazardous waste collection by county has no Lea County entry, and the county's convenience centers and landfill turn away liquid paint. What Hobbs does have is the South Hobbs Convenience and Recycle Center, a City of Hobbs and WM site, which takes paint once it's completely dry in its container. New Mexico has no PaintCare program, so there's no PaintCare store drop-off network here.

South Hobbs takes paint only when it's dry

The city and WM flyer for the South Hobbs Convenience and Recycle Center says no fresh or wet paint; paint is accepted only if it's completely dry in its container. The center is open Thursday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It also takes cardboard, mixed paper, newspaper, aluminum, clear plastic and metal, but no batteries, no tires and no commercial or industrial dumping. Questions go to WM at 575-964-5334.

Lea County's centers say no to paint

The county's North Hobbs center (4401 Business Park Boulevard, west of Halliburton; Monday to Saturday 8 to 6, Sunday 11 to 6) is free for Lea County households. Its refused list names paint, stains, paint thinner, solvents and 'Paint Liquid Form.' It does take used motor oil, batteries, tires and metal, so it still helps with the rest of a garage cleanout. Call 575-391-2953.

The Eunice landfill isn't a paint option

The Lea County Landfill at 3219 E State Highway 176 in Eunice charges $34 a ton and takes no debit or credit cards and no $50 or $100 bills. It refuses ignitable, corrosive, toxic or reactive hazardous waste and any bulk or free liquids. The City of Hobbs is one of the members of the solid waste authority that runs it. Call 575-394-9109.

No paint in your WM cart

WM collects Hobbs trash twice a week in a 96-gallon cart. Its Hobbs page lists household hazardous waste, including paint, oil and household cleaners, as not acceptable in the cart. The page doesn't say dried paint is OK in the cart either. For cart service, the city's numbers are 575-397-9216 and 575-397-9211.

Team Up to Clean Up doesn't take paint

Lea County's cleanup page listed a Hobbs cleanup for May 12 to 15, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the vacant lot on the northeast corner of Tulsa and Tatum, with no year given, plus Eunice and Jal dates; the April Lovington dates are marked complete. Its refused list is the same as the convenience centers': paint, thinner, stains and solvents. Questions: 575-391-2983.

Free pickup programs and other options

New Mexico has no PaintCare program, and PaintCare's locator data has no site in Lea County. NMED's fact sheet says to contact your city, county, solid waste authority or tribal program. Its 2025 county list has no Lea County entry, and the free Albuquerque center it describes is for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County residents. Lea County also runs convenience centers in Lovington and at the Monument, Knowles and Maljamar fire departments, with the same no-paint rules. The county page gives the Lovington site as 1107 S Commercial (entrance off Chavez); NMED's 2022 registry lists 1002 S Commercial. For paint that's still good, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 301 E. Navajo Dr. (Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) lists 'Paint and Supplies' among what it carries and says it now sells GreenSheen paint. It doesn't say whether it takes leftover paint as a donation, so call 575-433-4900 first.

Paint must be completely dry in the can before South Hobbs will take it. The flyer gives no drying method and doesn't say whether dried oil-based paint is treated like dried latex, so ask WM at 575-964-5334 first. Keep thinner, stain and solvents out of the county centers and your WM cart. NMED lists paint as a toxic household hazardous waste and turpentine as an ignitable one. Bring household loads only; South Hobbs and the county centers both turn away commercial dumping.

Sources and how we checked12

October 17, 2026: read the City of Hobbs home page notice and the South Hobbs Convenience and Recycle Center flyer image it links (hobbsnm.gov; the city's site has no solid waste page, and its site map shows none), WM's Hobbs residential page, Lea County's Convenience Centers, Landfill/Solid Waste Authority and Team Up to Clean Up pages (leacounty.gov; the old leacounty.net address fails with a certificate error), and the Hobbs Habitat ReStore page. Also read NMED's 2025 HHW-by-county list (no Lea County entry), its 2025 HHW fact sheet, its May 2025 permitted landfill list and its September 2022 registered collection centers list. PaintCare data: no Lea County listing. Conflicts: the landfill address (State Highway 176 on the county page, State Road 234 on NMED's list); the Lovington center (1107 vs 1002 S Commercial); and the South Hobbs contact number (WM 575-964-5334 on the flyer vs 575-392-0428 in NMED's 2022 registry). The Team Up to Clean Up page gives no year for its dates. Unresolved: whether South Hobbs takes dried oil-based paint, whether non-Hobbs residents may use it, any fee, any Lea County option for liquid or oil-based paint, and the ReStore's paint donation policy. No phone calls were made.
