From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Hennepin’s two drop-offs close at 5 pm. Ramsey’s Environmental Center at 1700 Kent Street closes at 6 pm Tuesday–Friday and takes Hennepin residents free. Compare drive time and what each takes, and bring proof of address. Other recycling may have other rules.
Hennepin allows three 5-gallon pails per household every 12 months, latex or oil; 1-gallon cans count differently. Before a fourth pail, ask how mixed loads and past visits count. Keep paint in its labeled original cans; don’t combine it to fit.
Hennepin won’t take paint from property managers or home businesses. Keep those cans apart and ask PaintCare about business drop-off. Meanwhile, keep the paint labeled and indoors so it won’t freeze, as Hennepin advises, not in a cold garage.
Hennepin’s Bloomington and Brooklyn Park sites take household paint free. Ramsey’s Environmental Center in Roseville also takes Hennepin households and stays open until 6 pm Tuesday–Friday.
Minneapolis households can use either Hennepin County paint drop-off. Bring a mixed garage cleanout to the county. A few cans of house paint may be easier at a PaintCare store.
The county limits 5-gallon pails each year; 1-gallon cans don’t count. Tell staff your container sizes and ask how a mixed load counts before bringing several buckets.
Bloomington’s paint drop-off is open, but its Free Product Center is closed for construction for now. Want free usable paint? Check Brooklyn Park.
Bloomington and Brooklyn Park keep Tuesday–Saturday hours all winter, closing Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. County events run only spring and summer. Tuesday–Thursday afternoons are quietest; avoid 10–11 a.m.
For 100+ gallons (by can size), request PaintCare’s free pickup at View program details ↗ . Otherwise try a nearby PaintCare store. Business oil-based paint needs PaintCare review first.

Bring a license or utility bill. Keep labeled cans upright in a lined box, easy to reach in the trunk or cargo area.
Full preparation checklist →No. Hennepin won’t take business paint, including from property managers and home businesses. Ask about a business option.
No. It covers the Free Product Center, not paint drop-off.
Ask Hennepin how mixed pails and past visits count, and ask Ramsey about other recycling. Rechecked October 6, 2026: Hennepin hours, holidays, spring–summer events and the Bloomington Free Product Center closure (since May 18) are unchanged.
