Resource Renew names Sherwin-Williams, Andren and Diamond Vogel as PaintCare stores taking up to 5 gallons. Check the store’s listing for location, hours and space. Stores help when Courtland is closed but won’t take spray cans, leaking cans or unlabeled products.
Tell Courtland staff about possible lead paint, paint chips or blasting residue; these aren’t regular paint cans. Resource Renew warns some old latex has mercury. Get packing instructions first. “Dry out latex and trash it” doesn’t apply to unknown old paint.

Paint and thinner go to Courtland Street. The Materials Recovery Center is open Wednesday too, but that doesn’t make Wednesday a hazardous waste day.
The site takes Minnesota residents and people living inside Superior city limits. That doesn’t cover other nearby Wisconsin towns.
The site is open only Thursday–Saturday and closes Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In 2026 that leaves only Saturday, November 28 and Saturday, December 26 in those weeks. Clean out before Thanksgiving.
Businesses can call Clean Shop at 218-726-1602 about approval, appointments and fees. For 100+ gallons of paint, check PaintCare’s free pickup: View program details ↗ .
