Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Westminster.

901 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, MD 21157
No spray cans, thinner, or unlabeled, leaking or empty cans. Carroll County's paint pages don't name PaintCare; they only say some paint stores take paint back.
1250 Old Meadow Branch Road, Westminster, MD 21158
The county says no latex or water-based paint, stain or sealant at its collections. PaintCare's locator lists this event as taking latex; go by the county and take latex to a PaintCare store or dry it out. No motor oil, antifreeze, propane or car batteries; those go to the Northern Landfill. Directions: take Route 97 north of Westminster past Meadow Branch Road to Old Meadow Branch Road. You can also call the Northern Landfill at 410-386-4550.
1400 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, MD 21157
No liquid paint. The brochure says it can't take "free liquids" or hazardous waste, and the county sends oil-based paint to its spring and fall collections. The Habitat ReStore donation area here says "No Paint." The site is on Route 140 about 2 miles east of TownMall, between the State Police barracks and Reese Volunteer Fire Company.
1706 Old Liberty Road, Westminster, MD 21157
No spray cans, thinner, or unlabeled, leaking or empty cans. Its listing rests only on PaintCare; call to check it still takes paint.
4 paint stores and 1 hazardous waste site, closest first. Paint stores take house paint, stain and varnish, usually up to a set amount per visit. Hazardous waste sites also take chemicals like thinner, but some only serve local residents. Call before you go.

If the label says soap and water cleanup, it's latex. Take good cans to Sherwin-Williams on Baltimore Boulevard, 5 gallons a visit. The county event won't take them.
Both can go to the county's free spring or fall collection at the Vehicle Maintenance Facility off Route 97. Between collections, the county says to store them safely. A PaintCare store will take the stain, but not the mineral spirits.
Westminster's bulk pickup (call 410-848-9077 at least 24 hours ahead) covers furniture, mattresses and short lumber, not paint. If a contractor did the work, the city won't take the debris at all.
The county event doesn't take motor oil. Pour it into the city's free used-oil containers at the Street Department shop, 105 Railroad Avenue, or take it to the Northern Landfill, up to 5 gallons a week.
Take up to 5 gallons of latex or oil-based house paint to Sherwin-Williams, 901 Baltimore Boulevard, during store hours; call 410-848-7062 first. Carroll County's free spring and fall collections at 1250 Old Meadow Branch Road also take oil-based paint and thinner, but not latex. The fall 2026 collection was set for Saturday, October 17; check the county page for the spring 2027 date. Dried latex can go in your city trash.
In Westminster, the Carroll County seat, latex and oil-based paint go different ways. Carroll County's free spring and fall collections take oil-based paint, stain and thinner but turn away latex. Latex goes to a PaintCare store such as Sherwin-Williams on Baltimore Boulevard, or gets dried out for the trash. This guide is for Westminster, Maryland, not Westminster, Colorado or California.
Carroll County's spring and fall collections take oil-based paint, stain, sealant and varnish, but not latex or water-based products. PaintCare's map lists the event as taking latex; the county's own pages say no, so go by the county.
Westminster's trash FAQ says latex left in cans must be dried so it can't run out of the cans and spill onto the street. The county adds: leave the lid off and set the can beside or on top of your trash can so the crew sees it's dry.
The city doesn't collect trash at buildings with four or more apartments, commercial buildings, or mixed homes-and-shops buildings. If that's you, ask your landlord's hauler about dried cans, or take liquid paint to a PaintCare store.
Sherwin-Williams at 901 Baltimore Boulevard and the Northern Landfill at 1400 Baltimore Boulevard are both on Route 140. Drop the good paint at the store, then dried latex cans and motor oil at the landfill.
Habitat's ReStore donation area at the Northern Landfill takes doors, cabinets and lumber but says "No Paint." Don't plan on leaving usable paint there.
Green's Ace Home Center at 1706 Old Liberty Road is another PaintCare store with a Westminster address. The Sherwin-Williams at 100 Westminster Pike in Reisterstown (Baltimore County) is also on PaintCare's list. Contractors and property managers with 100+ gallons can ask PaintCare for a free pickup.

Check the label: if it says clean up with soap and water, it's latex and the county collection won't take it. Keep paint in labeled cans with tight lids. To dry latex, stir in kitty litter, mulch or shredded paper, or leave a can under a quarter full open in a ventilated spot for a few days. The Northern Landfill is for county residents only; call 410-386-4550 to ask what proof to bring.
Full preparation checklist →No. The county says latex and water-based paint, stain and sealant aren't hazardous waste and aren't taken at its events. Take latex to a PaintCare store or dry it out.
Collections are usually held in spring and fall, 8 a.m.–noon, at 1250 Old Meadow Branch Road. The fall 2026 collection was set for Saturday, October 17, 2026. Check the county's household hazardous waste page or call 410-386-2510 for the spring 2027 date.
Only latex cans with the paint dried or hardened, and the brochure lists a fee. It doesn't take liquid or oil-based paint. It's for Carroll County residents only.
No. It's residential only, not for businesses or farms. Businesses can use PaintCare stores like the Baltimore Boulevard Sherwin-Williams within PaintCare's business limits.
Only dried latex with your regular trash. The city says it has no equipment or permits to haul hazardous materials. Take oil-based paint to a PaintCare store or the county collection, and thinner to the county collection.
On October 16, 2026 we read Carroll County's fall 2026 event page, its household hazardous waste and latex paint pages, the Office of Recycling page, the July 2024 Northern Landfill brochure, a fire company notice for the April 18, 2026 event, Westminster's trash FAQ and bulk trash page, MDE's county table and PaintCare's Maryland pages and locator data. PaintCare lists the county event as taking latex; the county says it doesn't. The fall 2026 collection was set for October 17, 2026; the spring 2027 date wasn't posted when we checked. We didn't check store capacity, the landfill's fee for dried cans, or what proof of residency the landfill asks for.
