Start with these

Lafayette Household Hazardous Waste Day (last held Nov. 22, 2025, at Cajun Field; next date not announced)

2351 W Congress St, Lafayette, LA 70506

Accepts
Paint and paint products, stains, paint thinner and stripper, turpentine, gasoline, cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, alkaline batteries and fluorescent tubes.
Who can use it
Residents of the City of Lafayette and unincorporated Lafayette Parish only. No business waste.
Hours
Event only. As of October 12, 2026, LCG has not set a date. The last one was Saturday, November 22, 2025, 8 a.m. to noon, at Cajun Field. Locations change, so check lafayettela.gov/hhwd.
Load limits
Not taken: motor oil, antifreeze, car or rechargeable batteries, gas cylinders, medicines, smoke detectors, explosives and commercial waste. The city lists no gallon limit.
Fees
Free.

This is a one-day event, not a drop-off site; the address is where the last one was held. LCG’s current pages give the Environmental Quality Division number as 337-291-8529. The November 2025 notice gave 337-291-5637, which DEQ’s list shows as LCG’s recycling line.

Lafayette Environmental Quality Convenience Center (under construction, not open yet)

400 Dugas Rd, Lafayette, LA 70507

Accepts
LCG says the center will be a year-round place for household hazardous waste, and its groundbreaking notice said it will host hazardous waste collection. But its current list shows garbage, bulky waste, construction debris, scrap metal, recycling, electronics and tires. Paint is not named yet, and the list may change before opening.
Who can use it
Lafayette city and unincorporated parish households free; other residents for a fee. No commercial waste.
Hours
Not open yet; no opening date posted. When LCG broke ground in July 2025, it expected construction to finish in 2026, weather permitting. Planned hours: Wednesday to Saturday 8 a.m.–4 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m.–noon, closed Monday and Tuesday.
Load limits
Planned: two visits a day at most, on no more than two days in any seven. You unload your own load. No commercial waste.
Fees
Planned: free for City of Lafayette and unincorporated parish residents with garbage service. Others pay $20 per car or truck, $30 with a trailer, card only.

Do not drive here with paint until LCG says the center is open and takes paint. Staff will check your driver’s license and garbage service at check-in.

THE LOCAL ANSWER

Hold your paint for Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Household Hazardous Waste Day; no 2026 date has been set, so check lafayettela.gov/hhwd or call 337-291-8529. It’s only for City of Lafayette and unincorporated Lafayette Parish residents. The Dugas Road convenience center isn’t open yet.

This guide is for Lafayette, Louisiana, in Lafayette Parish. Right now there is no place to drop off paint year-round. Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) holds a Household Hazardous Waste Day for city and unincorporated parish residents. The last one was November 22, 2025, and no new date has been set. A new convenience center on Dugas Road is being built but isn’t open.

No 2026 date yet for Household Hazardous Waste Day

As of October 12, 2026, LCG’s page says dates will be announced when events are scheduled. The last one was November 22, 2025, at Cajun Field, 8 a.m. to noon. Paint, stain, thinner and stripper are all on the list. Check lafayettela.gov/hhwd or call 337-291-8529.

Broussard, Youngsville, Scott and Carencro aren’t on the list

LCG’s event is open only to residents of the City of Lafayette and unincorporated Lafayette Parish. The page doesn’t include the parish’s other towns. If you live in one, ask your town hall.

Dugas Road center: coming, not open

The Environmental Quality Convenience Center at 400 Dugas Rd. is under construction. LCG says it will take household hazardous waste year-round, but its posted list doesn’t name paint yet, and no opening date is posted. Don’t bring paint until LCG says it’s open and taking it.

Bulky pickup won’t take paint

Acadiana Waste Services’ bulky pickup excludes hazardous waste. LCG asks you to call the Environmental Quality Division at 337-291-8529 with questions about items that can’t be collected.

The Know Before You Throw list has no paint entry

LCG’s July 2026 list of local places that take hard-to-toss items covers motor oil, batteries and electronics, but has no paint entry. Don’t count on a store taking your paint.

Free pickup programs and other options

There’s no free store take-back in Louisiana; PaintCare doesn’t run a program here. Usable paint can go to a neighbor, school or theater group. Lafayette Habitat’s ReStore (3124 NE Evangeline Thruway, 337-345-1439) doesn’t say online whether it takes paint, so call first. LCG’s current pages don’t say whether dried latex can go in your garbage cart. Call the Environmental Quality Division at 337-291-8529 before you put any paint out with the trash.

Keep oil paint, stain and thinner sealed, labeled and off the floor in case of flooding. Keep latex lids tight so it stays usable. When LCG sets a date, read its rules for ID and limits before you load the car.

Sources and how we checked9

October 12, 2026 (peer-checked the same day): read LCG’s Household Hazardous Waste Day page (no dates; city and unincorporated parish only; paint accepted), the September 2025 notice for the November 22, 2025 event, the EQCC page, the July 2025 EQCC groundbreaking release, the July 2026 Know Before You Throw PDF, the bulky items page, Lafayette Habitat ReStore’s page, and DEQ’s parish recycling list. LCG’s news feed shows no 2026 hazardous waste day notice. One search result claimed a September 12, 2026 event at Dugas Road; the live LCG page shows no dates and we found no notice, so we left it out. Local radio reported a May 31, 2025 event at the Northgate Mall lot; we left it out because we found no live LCG page for it. Phone conflict: LCG’s current pages give 337-291-8529 for the Environmental Quality Division; the November 2025 notice gave 337-291-5637, which DEQ’s list shows as the recycling line. Dried latex: an old LCG booklet hosted by DEQ said latex could be dried and put out with the garbage, but it names a former hauler, so we no longer rely on it. Not found: a current LCG rule on dried latex, the EQCC opening date, the ReStore’s paint policy, and rules for Broussard, Youngsville, Scott and Carencro. Update when LCG sets a date or opens the EQCC.

Checked October 12, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
