Habitat for Humanity ReStore North (Baton Rouge)

4301 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70805

Accepts
The ReStore lists “paint (opened & unopened)” as a building material it takes. The city says the ReStore takes full or partly full cans of latex paint or stain, and only full cans of oil paint.
Who can use it
Habitat’s page doesn’t post a residency rule. PaintCare’s locator lists this store for East Baton Rouge Parish households only, not businesses.
Hours
Donations Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. (store open until 5 p.m.). The ReStore Southeast, 10300 Perkins Rd. (225-408-0021), keeps the same hours. Habitat offers free pickup of large donations left outside: call 225-315-0127.
Load limits
Partly used oil-based paint is not on the city’s list for the ReStore; save it for the collection day. PaintCare’s listing says no empty, dried or leaking cans.
Fees
Free to donate.

The city calls this store “ReStore Northeast”; Habitat calls it ReStore North. The city’s paint flyer prints the number as 225-335-1895, but Habitat’s site and the city’s web page both use 225-355-1895. Call before you haul a big load.

THE LOCAL ANSWER

Bring oil-based paint to the East Baton Rouge collection day on Saturday, November 21, 2026, 8 a.m. to noon, at LSU Touchdown Village, with parish ID. Donate good latex to a Habitat ReStore, or dry it with cat litter and put it in your garbage cart with the lid off.

In Baton Rouge, latex and oil-based paint are handled differently. The city-parish says dried latex can go in your garbage cart, and good latex can go to a Habitat ReStore any week. Oil-based paint goes to the twice-a-year collection day for East Baton Rouge Parish residents. The next one is Saturday, November 21, 2026, at LSU.

November 21 at LSU Touchdown Village

The fall 2026 collection day is Saturday, November 21, 8 a.m. to noon, in the LSU Touchdown Village parking lot. Bring ID showing you live in East Baton Rouge Parish and stay in your car. Latex, oil and shellac paint, stain and varnish are all on the list. No container over 5 gallons.

Good latex: take it to a ReStore any week

Habitat’s ReStore North (4301 Airline Hwy.) and ReStore Southeast (10300 Perkins Rd.) take donations Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 to 4. The city says they take full or partly full latex and stain, but oil paint only in full cans.

Dry latex the city-parish way

The city’s flyer says: an inch or less in the can, take the lid off and let it dry. More than an inch, stir in an equal amount of cat litter and let it dry. Then put the can in your garbage cart with the lid off. The city’s web page adds that cans more than half full should be saved for the collection day. Never put liquid latex or any oil paint in the cart.

Don’t dry oil-based paint

The city-parish says oil-based paint is flammable wet or dry, so don’t solidify it. Only a completely empty oil can, lid off, goes in the cart. Partly full cans wait for the collection day.

Live outside East Baton Rouge Parish? Use your own parish

The collection day is for East Baton Rouge Parish residents, and ID is required. Zachary, Baker and Central are in the parish. If you live in Ascension or Livingston Parish, you’ll need your own parish’s program.

Free pickup programs and other options

There’s no free store take-back in Louisiana; PaintCare doesn’t run a program here. In 2012, Louisiana DEQ said its volunteers had run a paint swap at the parish collection day since 1990, blending usable latex for the Habitat ReStore to resell. We couldn’t confirm it still runs. The city-parish recycling drop-off at 7923 Tom Dr. is for recyclables, not paint. If your paint is still good, a neighbor, school or church may want it.

Sort first: good latex for the ReStore, dried latex for the cart, and oil paint, thinner and latex cans more than half full for November 21. Keep liquids in labeled, closed cans of 5 gallons or less. Box them upright in the trunk so workers can reach them without you getting out.

Baton Rouge questions5
When is the next hazardous waste day in Baton Rouge?

Saturday, November 21, 2026, 8 a.m. to noon, at the LSU Touchdown Village parking lot. The spring 2026 day was May 9 and is over.

Can latex paint go in my garbage cart?

Yes, once it is dry or the can is empty, with the lid off. The city-parish says latex paint is not hazardous. Liquid latex can’t go in the cart.

Does the ReStore take half-used oil paint?

The city’s paint guide says the ReStore takes oil paint only in full cans. Save half-used oil paint for the collection day.

Can my painting business use the collection day?

No. Waste from a business is not accepted. Businesses need a licensed hazardous waste hauler.

Who do I call with questions?

The city-parish Department of Environmental Services at 225-389-4865, or the ReStore at 225-355-1895 about donations.

Sources and how we checked8

October 12, 2026 (peer-checked the same day): read the city-parish Household Hazardous Materials page (fall 2026 date and its accepted and prohibited list image), the city’s Responsible Paint Disposal flyer, the April 27, 2026 news release for the May 9 spring day, the Community Drop-Off page, Habitat Greater Baton Rouge’s ReStore page, a 2012 DEQ news release on its paint swap, and DEQ’s parish recycling list. PaintCare’s locator lists the collection day and ReStore North as non-program East Baton Rouge household sites. Conflicts: the ReStore number is printed 225-335-1895 in the city flyer but 225-355-1895 on Habitat’s site, the city web page and PaintCare; we used 355. Habitat and the city give the ReStore zip as 70805; PaintCare says 70811; we used 70805. The city calls it ReStore Northeast. PaintCare lists 225-389-5194 for the collection day; the 2026 release gives 225-389-4865; we used the newer one. The city gives the place only as the LSU Touchdown Village parking lot; the street (S Quad St) is from PaintCare. Drying: the flyer uses an inch as the cutoff, while the city web page says to save cans more than half full for the collection day; we give both. The ReStore page doesn’t split latex and oil; that comes from the city. We found no 2025 or 2026 notice of DEQ’s paint swap. Move the November 21 date to the past tense after the event.

Checked October 12, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
