Start with these

Ada County Landfill Household Hazardous Waste Facility

10300 N Seamans Gulch Rd, Boise, ID 83714

Accepts
Latex paint, oil-based paint, stains, solvents, paint thinners, aerosol cans, plus pesticides, automotive fluids, pool chemicals, batteries and other household chemicals.
Who can use it
Ada County residents. Businesses only if they are very small hazardous waste generators (under 220 pounds a month) in Ada County, by appointment on Fridays. Call 208-577-4737 at least one business day ahead. Boise says to call 208-577-4736 for the sign-up forms.
Hours
Friday and Saturday 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Closed Sunday through Thursday and on landfill holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day are full closures; on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the landfill closes at 4 p.m. and it is closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Open on Veterans Day. The HHW office answers the phone Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Load limits
Ada County says loads over 25 gallons or 25 items, and full clean-outs, should come here instead of a mobile site. But Boise’s paint page says paint is taken at any site or facility “at a max of 25 gallons.” If you have more than 25 gallons of paint, call 208-577-4737 before you go. Keep products in original, labeled containers with lids tight. PaintCare’s listing says empty, dry or leaking paint containers are not taken.
Fees
Free for Ada County households. Very small businesses pay by the pound.

It’s the first building on the left before the landfill scale house. The Material Reuse Program here gives away usable paint, stain and thinner that others dropped off: up to 4 items per visit, free, after you sign a waiver. Products must be in the original container and at least half full to be stocked.

Which option fits your Boise cleanout?5
02

You’re clearing out a whole garage

A big clean-out goes to the landfill, not a mobile site. Go to Seamans Gulch on a Friday or Saturday between 8 and 6; the hazardous waste building is before the scale house. Boise’s paint page lists a 25-gallon maximum for paint, so if you have more than that, call 208-577-4737 first and ask how to bring the rest.

Boise rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Take paint to the Ada County Landfill hazardous waste drop-off, 10300 N. Seamans Gulch Rd., Friday or Saturday 8–6, free for Ada County homes. For 25 gallons or less you can also use a mobile truck that stops around Boise from noon to 7 p.m., Monday to Thursday. Latex and oil-based paint are both taken.

In Boise, Idaho, leftover paint goes to Ada County’s free household hazardous waste program. You can take latex and oil-based paint to the drop-off at the Ada County Landfill on Seamans Gulch Road on Fridays and Saturdays, or to a mobile collection truck on Monday to Thursday afternoons. The truck’s spot depends on the day and the week of the month.

Big loads go to the landfill on Friday or Saturday

The landfill hazardous waste building is open Friday and Saturday 8–6. It’s the first building on the left before the scale house at 10300 N. Seamans Gulch Rd. Ada County sends loads over 25 gallons or 25 items there. Boise’s paint page caps paint at 25 gallons, so call 208-577-4737 first if you have more.

Mobile trucks cover Boise neighborhoods

From noon to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, a truck parks at a set spot that depends on the week of the month: Albertsons on Vista (4th Tuesday), Mountain Cove Road (1st and 3rd Thursday), Cole & Ustick library (2nd Tuesday), Wright UCC on Franklin (3rd Tuesday), and fire stations on McMillan, Five Mile and Highway 21. Each takes up to 25 gallons or 25 items. There are no Tuesday to Thursday stops in a month’s 5th week.

Latex is taken here, and it’s free

Boise’s Curb It guide lists latex paint with oil-based paint, stain and thinner as hazardous waste, up to 25 gallons. There’s no fee for Ada County households at the landfill or the mobile sites.

Pick up free paint at the landfill

The Material Reuse Program at the landfill gives away usable paint, stain and thinner others dropped off. You can take up to 4 items after signing a waiver.

Contractors and landlords can’t use mobile sites

Paint from painting contractors, property managers or other businesses isn’t taken at mobile sites. A very small Ada County business can use the landfill facility on Fridays for a fee charged by the pound, by appointment at 208-577-4737.

Free pickup programs and other options

Idaho has no PaintCare program, so paint stores won’t take paint back for free. Idaho DEQ says household hazardous waste isn’t regulated as hazardous waste and suggests nonprofits may want leftover paint, so ask friends, neighbors or a charity first. For free paint, check the landfill’s Material Reuse Program. Boise’s own pages don’t say whether dried latex can go in your Curb It trash cart, so use the free drop-off unless the city tells you otherwise. Empty aerosol cans can go in the trash cart; ones with product left go to hazardous waste.

Keep paint in its original, labeled can with the lid on tight. Empty, dry or leaking cans won’t be taken. Count your load: over 25 gallons or 25 items means the landfill on Friday or Saturday, not a mobile site. Put cans in a box in the trunk so they can’t tip.

Boise questions5
Does Boise take latex paint for free?

Yes. Ada County’s hazardous waste program takes latex and oil-based paint free from Ada County households, at the landfill or a mobile site.

Where is the mobile paint drop-off this week?

It depends on the day and the week of the month. For example, Albertsons on Vista is the 4th Tuesday and Mountain Cove Road is the 1st and 3rd Thursday. The full list is on the City of Boise’s mobile site calendar, or call 208-608-7136. Sites run noon to 7 p.m. and close on holidays.

Can I bring paint from a rental I manage?

Not to a mobile site. Business paint, including from property managers and contractors, goes to the landfill facility only if the business qualifies as a very small generator, pays and books a Friday slot.

I live in Meridian or Eagle. Can I use this?

Yes. It’s an Ada County program. Meridian has a site every Monday at Republic Services on W. Franklin Rd., and Eagle has a Park and Ride site in October, January, April and July.

Is the landfill drop-off open on Thanksgiving weekend?

It’s closed Thanksgiving Day, which is a Thursday, so it doesn’t affect the Friday–Saturday hours. It’s open Veterans Day. It closes at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Sources and how we checked10

October 13, 2026: read Ada County Landfill’s hazardous waste page and hours/holiday page, the City of Boise Curb It hazardous waste page, its mobile site calendar, its paints-and-stains and aerosols entries, and its household hazardous waste handout (updated March 2026), plus Idaho DEQ’s residential waste page and paint fact sheet, and PaintCare’s non-program listings for Ada County. The Ada County and Boise pages agree on Friday–Saturday 8–6 at the landfill and noon–7 mobile hours, and the county table, city calendar and handout list the same rotation. We give the rotation as a rule and list no specific dates. Conflict: Ada County says loads over 25 gallons or 25 items should go to the landfill, but Boise’s paint page says paint is taken at any site or facility at a max of 25 gallons, so we tell readers with more to call first. The “empty, dry or leaking” rule comes from PaintCare’s listings. Unresolved: Boise’s pages don’t say whether dried latex may go in the trash cart, so we don’t suggest it. We couldn’t find a Boise ReStore paint policy. Ada County’s page doesn’t say what proof of residency it checks.

Checked October 13, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
