From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Take all of it to Blue Gum Street on a dry Tuesday–Saturday. Keep each product in its own labeled container, nothing over 5 gallons, and stay under 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip.
Dunn-Edwards and Sherwin-Williams on Santa Ana Canyon Road both take house paint, up to 20 gallons a visit. Call first to make sure they have room.
The county center won't take it. Use a PaintCare store that lists businesses (both Dunn-Edwards stores do), and request a free PaintCare pickup if you have 100 gallons or more.
Centers close in rainy weather. Call 714-834-4000 before driving, or take just the house paint to a PaintCare store that day.
Bring paint, spray cans and thinner to the county's Anaheim collection center, 1071 N. Blue Gum St., Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.; it's free for Orange County residents, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. It closes when it rains. For house paint only, PaintCare stores such as Dunn-Edwards on State College Boulevard take up to 20 gallons a visit.
Anaheim has one of Orange County's four free household hazardous waste centers at 1071 N. Blue Gum Street. It's run by OC Waste & Recycling, not the city, and only takes waste from Orange County households. Paint stores across town, including two on Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim Hills, take house paint free through PaintCare.
OC Waste & Recycling closes its centers on rainy days, as well as Sundays, Mondays and major holidays. If the forecast looks wet, call 714-834-4000 before you load the car.
Proof of county residence may be requested. If you live just over the line in Los Angeles County, this center isn't for you. Businesses, churches, schools and nonprofits are turned away too, even with small amounts.
Each county center runs a Materials Exchange. Orange County residents can take up to five partly used household, yard or car products a week, free, without dropping anything off. Today's page doesn't mention paint. During the county's November 2024 paint month, it said good paint that staff inspected went to this exchange.
Yorba Linda tells its residents the Anaheim center is their closest, and Brea sends residents' sharps here. Any Orange County household can also use Huntington Beach (17121 Nichols Lane, Gate 6), Irvine (6411 Oak Canyon) or San Juan Capistrano (32250 Avenida La Pata), with the same hours.
Anaheim's free Republic Services bulky pickup (three a year, up to 20 items each) is for furniture, appliances and other large items. The city's page doesn't mention paint. Take paint to the county center or a PaintCare store instead.
PaintCare lists several Anaheim stores for house paint: Sherwin-Williams at 1133 N. Kraemer Blvd. and 517 S. Euclid St. (20 gallons each) and PPG Paints at 1889 E. Ball Rd. (5 gallons). Vista Paint in Stanton, 8615 Katella Ave., takes 20 gallons. Homebound seniors and disabled residents can ask the county about a scheduled pickup at 714-834-4000; slots are limited and there's a wait. The county doesn't publish a cost, so ask when you call. With 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare for a free pickup.

Keep each product in its original, labeled container with a tight lid. Similar paints can be poured together, but never mix oil-based with latex or with other chemicals. Nothing over 5 gallons. Pack cans upright so they can't tip, and stay under 15 gallons or 125 pounds for the whole car.
Full preparation checklist →No. It's open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., and closed on major holidays and rainy days.
No. It's free for Orange County residents. Bring something showing your address in case staff ask.
Yes, to the county center. Aerosol cans are on its list. PaintCare stores don't take spray cans.
No. The county center doesn't take business waste. PaintCare stores take house paint from businesses, and PaintCare offers free pickup for 100 gallons or more.
Sometimes. The Materials Exchange at the county centers lets residents take up to five products a week. The county's page doesn't say paint is offered now, and what's there depends on what others drop off.
October 13, 2026: read OC Waste & Recycling's household hazardous waste page, locations and hours page, July 2026 fact sheet (PDF), Materials Exchange page, home pick-up page and its November 2024 paint-month notice; Yorba Linda's and Brea's hazardous waste pages; Anaheim's bulky item page (read in a browser); and PaintCare's locator data for Anaheim. The county's holiday list shows Christmas with a 2025 date, likely a typo. The county says centers close for rain but doesn't say how that's announced, so we tell readers to call. The fact sheet doesn't list a paint-specific limit beyond the 15-gallon trip limit. The Materials Exchange page doesn't say whether paint is offered today; only the 2024 paint-month notice says inspected paint went there. Home pick-up cost isn't published. Yorba Linda lists 714-834-6752 for the county; the county's own pages use 714-834-4000. Anaheim's city pages we read don't mention paint. Store hours weren't checked; PaintCare says regular business hours.
