Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Mountain Home.

2017 Hwy 5 S, Mountain Home, AR 72653
The 5-gallon cap is for the whole year, not per visit. PaintCare’s locator says empty, dried or leaking cans aren’t taken. The Road & Bridge office number is answered Monday–Thursday 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m., so you can call before a Monday trip. PaintCare runs no program in Arkansas; its online locator still lists some Arkansas household hazardous waste sites for information, and those listings come from the local program, not from PaintCare.
Your state doesn’t have a PaintCare program, so stores here don’t take paint for free. These are the public drop-off programs PaintCare’s map lists, closest first. Most only serve their own residents and some charge a fee. Call before you go.

From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
That’s over the county’s 5-gallon yearly limit. Bring 5 gallons on a Monday and call 870-425-3695 about the rest.
The county center won’t take latex. Give good paint to someone who can use it. Before you put dried latex in your Methvin cart, ask Methvin at 870-421-9704, since we found no published rule.
There’s no other day at the Baxter County center. The Gassville recycling site’s first-Saturday hours are for recycling, not paint. Plan a Monday morning off, or ask someone in your household to take it.
The county won’t take glass containers or unlabeled, mixed chemicals. Ask Road & Bridge before you bring it.
Bring oil-based paint, stain and thinner to the Baxter County Recycling & Hazardous Waste Center, 2017 Hwy. 5 S., on a Monday between 8 a.m. and noon. It’s for Baxter County residents, and the limit is 5 gallons of oil-based paint per household per year. Latex isn’t taken there, and Baxter Recycling won’t take paint cans either.
In Mountain Home, Arkansas, Baxter County takes oil-based paint, stain and thinner at its Recycling & Hazardous Waste Center, 2017 Highway 5 South, on Mondays only, 8 a.m. to noon. It’s for Baxter County residents, with a limit of 5 gallons of oil-based paint per household per year. The county doesn’t take latex paint.
The county center is open one morning a week, Monday 8 a.m. to noon. The Road & Bridge office answers 870-425-3695 Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m., if you want to check first.
The county’s yearly limit is 5 gallons of oil-based paint per household. If you have more, ask the county how to handle the rest before you bring it.
Baxter County wants everything in its original, labeled container. It won’t take glass containers or mixed chemicals.
Baxter Recycling on Rossi Road takes cans and bottles, but its flyer says no paint or aerosol cans. It tells you to take oil, gas, paint, batteries and bulbs to Road & Bridge on Monday mornings.
Methvin Sanitation’s list of bulky items it picks up in the city includes furniture, mattresses, Freon-free appliances, toys, tools, bicycles, clothes, metal, carpet, fencing and lumber. Paint isn’t on the list, and push mowers must have no oil or gas.
Arkansas has no PaintCare program, so stores in Mountain Home don’t take paint back. Baxter County is in the Ozark Mountain Solid Waste District, which also covers Boone, Marion, Newton and Searcy counties. The district lists the same Monday center for Baxter County hazardous waste. Its Gassville recycling site (first Saturday) and Baxter Recycling in Mountain Home don’t list paint. The Boone County Recycling Center in Harrison takes paint, up to 7 gallons a day, but the district asks for a Boone County address and PaintCare’s locator lists it for Boone County households only. Unlike Little Rock, which has no public paint drop-off, Baxter County has a site, but only for oil-based paint.

Sort out the oil-based paint, stain and thinner and make sure each container has its label and a tight lid. Measure it: 5 gallons per household per year. Pull out any glass jars or mixed leftovers. Be ready to show you live in Baxter County; the county doesn’t say what proof it accepts. Set latex aside; the county center won’t take it.
Full preparation checklist →To the Baxter County Recycling & Hazardous Waste Center at the Road & Bridge Department, 2017 Hwy. 5 S., Mondays 8 a.m. to noon. It’s for Baxter County residents.
No. Latex isn’t on the county’s list, and PaintCare’s listing says the site doesn’t take it. We didn’t find a city or Methvin rule on dried latex in the trash, so call Methvin at 870-421-9704 before you put any out.
Up to 5 gallons of oil-based paint per household per year. Motor oil is limited to 5 gallons a day.
No. Baxter Recycling’s flyer says no paint or aerosol cans and sends paint to Road & Bridge on Monday mornings.
Yes, if your home is in Baxter County. The county says the center is for Baxter County residents only.
Checked October 16, 2026: Baxter County’s Road & Bridge page (hazardous waste center section), the Ozark Mountain Solid Waste District’s Baxter and Boone County pages (read in a browser), Baxter Day Service Center’s recycling page and its drop-off flyer, the City of Mountain Home’s trash and Methvin Sanitation pages and its bulky waste list, Arkansas DEQ’s center list and PaintCare’s locator data. The Ozark Mountain district links to an older Road & Bridge address (baxtercountyroadandbridge.com); the county’s current page is on baxtercountyar.gov. Peer review (October 16, 2026) corrected the Methvin bulky item list and noted that PaintCare’s Arkansas listings are information only. Unresolved: whether the county charges anything, what proof of residency it accepts, how to handle oil-based paint over 5 gallons, and whether Methvin takes dried latex in the cart. We found no Baxter County collection event and no paint reuse shelf.
