Springdale Recycling Drop-off (S. Lowell Road)

1809 S Lowell Rd, Springdale, AR 72764

Accepts
Oil-based paint, latex paint and spray paint, plus antifreeze, batteries, used motor oil, sharps in a rigid container, light bulbs and electronics. The district says it is one of only two Boston Mountain sites that take latex; the other is the district’s Bond Road site in Prairie Grove. The city says everyday recycling (cans, bottles, paper, cardboard) is taken free at the same drop-off.
Who can use it
The city lists paint under “Residents Only.” The top of the same page names residents of Springdale and of Washington and Madison counties. PaintCare’s locator lists it for households only, no businesses. A “No Residency Requirements” line on the city page sits under the tire and light-bulb items, not under paint.
Hours
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. PaintCare’s listing adds that it is closed on holidays.
Load limits
20 cans of paint per day per home address. The district takes only home-sized amounts, wants every item labeled and turns away unknown chemicals and explosives.
Fees
The sources don’t agree. The city’s price list on its hazardous waste page says oil-based paint is $1 a can, latex is $2 a can and spray paint is free. The top of that same page says the service is free for residents of Springdale and Washington and Madison counties. The city’s recycling FAQ says oil-based paint can be dropped off free. The district’s page says latex is $2 a gallon. PaintCare’s locator lists $1 and $2 a can and says to pay by cash or check.

We couldn’t tell which fee is current, so call 479-249-4558 or ask when you arrive, and bring cash or a check in case a fee is charged. Keep each item in its labeled can. Arkansas DEQ still lists this site under the Springdale Street Department with an 888 number; use the 479-249-4558 number the city gives. PaintCare runs no program in Arkansas; its online locator still lists some Arkansas household hazardous waste sites for information, and those listings come from the local program, not from PaintCare.

Boston Mountain Solid Waste District: West Washington County Transfer Station (Bond Road, Prairie Grove)

11398 Bond Rd, Prairie Grove, AR 72753

Accepts
Household hazardous waste, including latex paint; Fayetteville’s page lists oil-based paint among the items this Prairie Grove center takes. It also takes trash, recycling, tires and electronics. It has a free self-service latex paint station, or staff take latex for a fee.
Who can use it
The district says the transfer station is open to everyone, and that it takes only home-sized amounts of hazardous waste. PaintCare’s locator lists it for households in the Boston Mountain district only, no businesses, so ask before bringing paint from outside Washington or Madison County.
Hours
Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–3 p.m., Saturday 8–11 a.m. The district says it may close early when it reaches its permitted capacity, and posts early closures on Facebook.
Load limits
Home-sized amounts of hazardous waste only. Every item must be labeled; no unknown chemicals and no explosives.
Fees
Latex dropped off with staff costs $2 a gallon, with a $2 minimum. The self-service latex station is free. Trash costs a $10 minimum for up to 240 pounds, then $73.18 a ton plus tax.

Loads must be tied down or covered; the district charges $20 for an unsecured load. Arkansas DEQ lists older hours (to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and to noon Saturday); use the district’s own hours. Text TRASH through the QR code on the district’s home page to get closure alerts.

Which option fits your Springdale cleanout?5
04

You live on the Benton County side of Springdale

The city’s page names Springdale residents along with Washington and Madison County residents, so a Springdale address should work at Lowell Road; call 479-249-4558 if you want to be sure. The Benton County district’s sites are another option; PaintCare’s locator lists them for Benton County households only.

05

Old paint is mixed in with your bulky waste pile

Pull it out before the crew comes. Springdale’s bulky waste rules say free liquids such as paint aren’t allowed, and the crew won’t take anything until they’re removed.

Springdale rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Take paint to the Springdale Recycling Drop-off, 1809 S. Lowell Rd., Monday, Wednesday or Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., up to 20 cans a day. It’s for residents of Springdale and Washington and Madison counties. The city’s price list says $1 a can for oil-based paint and $2 for latex, but other city and district pages say oil-based is free or latex is $2 a gallon, so call 479-249-4558 to ask. For free latex, use the self-service station at the district’s Bond Road site in Prairie Grove, or dry latex out and put it in the trash.

In Springdale, Arkansas, paint goes to the city’s recycling drop-off at 1809 S. Lowell Road, one of the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District’s hazardous waste sites. It takes oil-based paint, latex and spray paint on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, up to 20 cans a day per address. City and district pages list different fees, from free to $2 a can or $2 a gallon. The district’s Bond Road site in Prairie Grove also takes latex, and has a free self-service latex station.

Lowell Road takes both kinds of paint

Springdale’s drop-off is one of only two Boston Mountain sites that take latex; the Fayetteville trailer and the Madison County sites don’t. Bring latex and oil-based paint together on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

Count your cans before you go

The city caps paint at 20 cans per day per home address. A bigger cleanout needs two trips on different days, or a run to Bond Road for the latex.

The fee depends on which page you read

The city’s price list says $1 a can for oil-based paint and $2 a can for latex. The district says latex is $2 a gallon. The city’s FAQ says oil-based paint is free, and the top of its hazardous waste page says the service is free for Springdale, Washington County and Madison County residents. We couldn’t tell which is current. Call 479-249-4558, and bring cash or a check in case a fee applies.

Free latex drop-off is in Prairie Grove

The district’s Bond Road transfer station has a free self-service latex station. The site is open weekdays 7 a.m.–3 p.m. and Saturdays 8–11 a.m., but may close early when it fills up. Handing latex to staff there costs $2 a gallon.

Not with your bulky waste pickup

Springdale’s bulky waste crew won’t take free liquids such as paint. If they’re in the pile, nothing gets picked up until you remove them.

Free pickup programs and other options

Arkansas has no PaintCare program, so paint stores in Springdale don’t take paint back. The Boston Mountain Solid Waste District serves Washington and Madison counties. Its hazardous waste sites are in Springdale, Prairie Grove, Fayetteville, Huntsville and St. Paul, and it runs rural recycling drop-offs in Goshen, Elkins and Winslow. Fayetteville’s trailer at S. Happy Hollow Road and 15th Street takes oil-based paint free on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but no latex, and the city says it’s for residents. Springdale reaches into Benton County. The Benton County district runs its own sites, covered in our Bentonville guide; PaintCare’s locator lists them for Benton County households only.

Separate latex from oil-based and spray paint and count the cans; stop at 20 per day. Keep labels on and lids tight. To trash latex, the district says to let a small amount dry with the lid off, or stir in kitty litter or sawdust, let it sit at least an hour until dry, and put it in the trash. Bring cash or a check.

Springdale questions5
Where do I take old paint in Springdale, Arkansas?

To the city’s recycling drop-off at 1809 S. Lowell Rd., open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. It takes oil-based, latex and spray paint. Call 479-249-4558 with questions.

How much does Springdale charge for paint?

It isn’t clear. The city’s list says $1 a can for oil-based paint, $2 a can for latex and nothing for spray paint. The Boston Mountain district says latex is $2 a gallon, a city FAQ says oil-based paint is free, and the top of the city’s page says the service is free for local residents. Call 479-249-4558 to ask which applies.

Is there a free way to get rid of latex paint?

Yes. The district’s Bond Road site in Prairie Grove has a free self-service latex station. You can also dry latex at home with kitty litter or sawdust and put it in the trash.

Can I bring more than 20 cans?

Not in one day. The city limits paint to 20 cans per day per home address.

Can a contractor or business use the Lowell Road drop-off?

PaintCare’s locator lists the site for households only, no businesses, and the district takes home-sized amounts only. A business needs a private hazardous waste company.

Sources and how we checked12

Checked October 16, 2026: the City of Springdale’s household recycling and hazardous disposal page, recycling program page (FAQ on tires and paint) and bulky waste page; the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District’s household hazardous waste, solid waste disposal, home, events and district info pages; Fayetteville’s household hazardous waste page; the Encyclopedia of Arkansas entry for Springdale; Arkansas DEQ’s center list; and PaintCare’s locator data (PaintCare lists some non-program Arkansas sites for information only). The city pages needed a browser to load. Conflicts: the city’s price list ($1 oil, $2 latex per can), its FAQ (oil-based free), its page header (free for local residents) and the district ($2 a gallon for latex) don’t match. ADEQ still lists the site under the Springdale Street Department with an 888 number and lists older Bond Road hours, plus a Washington County office on Brink Drive in Fayetteville that the district no longer lists. The district’s events page showed no events. Peer review (October 16, 2026) re-read every source, removed advice to expect the higher fee, and noted that the city’s “Residents Only” heading doesn’t itself say which residents. Unresolved: which fee is current, whether the Lowell Road site checks ID, and Springdale’s own rule for dried latex in curbside trash (we used the district’s).

Checked October 16, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
