THE LOCAL ANSWERHold your paint for the next free Garland County household hazardous waste collection day at the Garland County Fairgrounds; the city says it normally runs in May and October. The 2026 fall event was held October 10, so call Hot Springs Solid Waste at 501-321-6911 for the next date. Don’t take paint to the county landfill or transfer stations: they say they don’t take it.
Hot Springs, Arkansas, has no year-round place to drop off paint. The Garland County landfill and transfer stations say they don’t take paint, and the city’s Recycling Center on Runyon Street doesn’t list it. Paint goes to a free Garland County household hazardous waste collection day at the Garland County Fairgrounds, which the city says normally happens in May and October.
Store it until the next collection day
Keep cans in a cool, dry spot with the lids tight, away from kids and pets. The city says the event normally takes place in May and October. Watch the city’s Solid Waste events page or the county’s news page for the date.
The landfill and transfer stations say no
Garland County’s landfill FAQ says, “We do not take paint.” The county’s recycling brochure lists “no paint or liquids” at the 7 North and 70 West transfer stations and at the landfill.
Keep paint out of CAPS and Spring Fling
The city says not to mix paint in with CAPS bulky pickup items (501-321-6921). Spring Fling roll-offs, normally the last weekend in April, don’t take paint either; the city sends paint to the household hazardous waste event.
Dried latex in the trash: ask first
We found no city or county rule that says dried latex can go in the cart. The city’s brochure says only typical household garbage goes in, and that hazardous products are harmful in household trash. Ask Solid Waste at 501-321-6911 before you put dried latex out.
Paint swap at the event
PaintCare’s listing for the collection day mentions a paint exchange area for usable paint in its original can with a readable label. The city and county pages don’t mention it, so ask when you call.
