THE LOCAL ANSWERPour liquid latex paint at Winnebago County's self-serve station, 100 W. County Road Y in Oshkosh, for $1 a gallon, or dry it out and put it in the trash. Take oil-based paint, stain and spray paint to the county's Household Hazardous Materials Facility across the road; it's free for county households but by appointment only, May through October. After October, use the November 6-7 Clean Sweep events or Brown County's year-round site in Green Bay.
In Oshkosh, Wisconsin, latex and oil-based paint go to two different Winnebago County spots on County Road Y, just south of the city. Liquid latex goes to a self-serve pour station at the Sunnyview landfill drop site for $1 a gallon. Oil-based paint goes free to the county's seasonal Household Hazardous Materials Facility across the road, by appointment only, May through October.
Latex and oil-based go to different buildings
The hazardous materials facility at 105 W. County Road Y won't take liquid latex. Pour latex at the self-serve station at 100 W. County Road Y instead. Oil-based paint, lead paint, stain, varnish and spray paint go to the hazardous materials building.
Pour your latex into a bucket at home
The latex station is self-serve: you empty the paint into the county's tank. The county suggests combining cans into a 5-gallon pail or ice-cream bucket first. It costs $1 a gallon, and only liquid latex is taken.
October is the last month to book this year
The hazardous materials facility opens in May and runs by appointment through October. October 2026 slots are open. Book at least 2 days ahead online or at 920-232-1800; walk-ins are turned away. A truck bed or trailer full needs 2 back-to-back slots.
After October: Clean Sweep or Green Bay
Winnebago County's Clean Sweep events are Friday, November 6, 2026, 2-4 p.m. at the Village of Winneconne Public Works Garage, and Saturday, November 7, 8-11 a.m. at the City of Neenah City Services Building. Register first. Winnebago County also says its residents can use Brown County's year-round facility in Green Bay for free. Brown County's pages don't name Winnebago, so call 920-492-4950 first.
Dried latex can go in your garbage
The county calls latex non-hazardous. Pour small amounts over your household garbage. For more, mix it with cat litter or oil dry until solid, then put it in the trash.
