Start with these

New River Resource Authority household hazardous waste day (Dublin)

7100 Cloyd’s Mountain Road, Dublin, VA 24084

Accepts
NRRA calls it a regional household hazardous waste and document shredding event. Its page doesn’t list which paints it takes. Ask about oil-based paint, thinner and latex when you call to book.
Who can use it
Residents served by the New River Resource Authority. NRRA’s board has members from the City of Radford, Pulaski County, Giles County, the Town of Dublin and the Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority. No commercial waste and no commercial vehicles.
Hours
One event a year (MRSWA’s disposal guide calls it NRRA’s annual event), by appointment. The 2026 event was Saturday, August 1, 2026, 9 a.m.–noon. No later date was posted when we checked on October 16, 2026. NRRA’s office hours are Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.
Load limits
Not published in reviewed sources; ask when you book.
Fees
Not published in reviewed sources. The page invites residents served by NRRA and lists no charge; confirm when you call.

The August 1, 2026 event is over. NRRA’s rate sheet lists trash, debris, wood, tires, appliances and recycling. Paint isn’t on it, so there’s no everyday paint drop-off.

Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority hazardous waste day (Montgomery County residents only)

555 Authority Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073

Accepts
MRSWA’s home page lists household chemicals and paints, plus compact and fluorescent bulbs, electronics and batteries. Its disposal guide says no electronics or batteries at these events, so ask when you register. PaintCare’s listing says empty, dry or leaking paint containers aren’t taken.
Who can use it
Residents within Montgomery County only. No businesses. Radford is its own city, not part of Montgomery County, so call MRSWA before you plan on this event.
Hours
November 7, 2026, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., set for MRSWA’s Christiansburg site. Call 540-381-2820 to register. MRSWA’s page gives the date and time but not the place or weekday; PaintCare’s listing puts it at 555 Authority Drive on Saturday, by appointment, with booking from September 28, 2026. MRSWA says it holds these events twice a year and that they are the only time it takes household chemicals and paint.
Load limits
Not published on MRSWA’s page. PaintCare’s listing asks you to keep products in original containers with tight lids, sorted by type, and never to mix chemicals.
Fees
Not published on MRSWA’s page; ask when you register.

Listed here because PaintCare’s map shows MRSWA sites near Radford. A second PaintCare listing places an MRSWA event at Radford University with out-of-date “November 2025” wording; MRSWA’s own page is the one to trust. MRSWA’s home page gives its address as Christiansburg, VA 24073; PaintCare uses 24068.

Which option fits your Radford cleanout?5
01

You have a few cans of leftover latex wall paint

Don’t take them to Park Road or the recycling boxes. Call the city’s Sanitation/Recycling office at 540-731-3605 (option 2) and ask whether fully dried latex can go in your city trash. Until then, store the cans sealed.

Radford rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Call Radford’s Sanitation/Recycling office at 540-731-3605 (option 2) before you throw paint out; the city doesn’t publish a paint rule, and its Drop Center and recycling sites don’t take paint. Keep oil-based paint and thinner sealed for NRRA’s next household hazardous waste day in Dublin, booked by phone at 540-674-1677. The 2026 day was August 1, and no later date was posted as of October 16, 2026.

Radford, Virginia has no everyday paint drop-off. The city’s Drop Center on Park Road and its recycling sites both list paint as not accepted. The hazardous waste day open to Radford households is run by the New River Resource Authority (NRRA) in Dublin, which Radford helps govern. Its 2026 day was August 1, 2026. This guide is for the City of Radford in the New River Valley.

Park Road says no paint

The Drop Center at 1800 Park Road (the old incinerator) is for City of Radford residents only, with no contractors or businesses. It takes household trash, yard waste, pallets, brush, metal and small debris loads. Paint, oil and hazardous materials are on its not-accepted list.

Recycling boxes aren’t for cans of paint

Radford’s recycling drop-offs at 200 George Street (behind the Recreation Center) and 1800 Park Road list paint, batteries and tires as not accepted. Leave paint cans out of the single-stream boxes.

NRRA’s day is by appointment

NRRA held its regional hazardous waste and shredding event on Saturday, August 1, 2026, 9 a.m. to noon, at 7100 Cloyd’s Mountain Road in Dublin. You had to call 540-674-1677 for a slot. No commercial waste or commercial vehicles were allowed.

Radford is an NRRA member

NRRA’s board includes members from the City of Radford, Pulaski County, Giles County, the Town of Dublin and the Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority. Its page invites the residents it serves, so Radford households belong at its events.

The Christiansburg event is for Montgomery County

PaintCare’s map shows MRSWA hazardous waste sites near Radford. MRSWA’s November 7, 2026 event is for residents within Montgomery County only, so call 540-381-2820 before counting on it. PaintCare lists it at MRSWA’s site on Authority Drive in Christiansburg.

Free pickup programs and other options

Virginia has no PaintCare program, so stores don’t take paint back for free. Use up good paint, or give it to a neighbor or community group. MRSWA, whose single-stream guidelines Radford’s recycling follows, says its preferred way to handle latex is to dry it with cat litter, mulch or sand and put it in the garbage, and that paint can also be donated to nonprofits, day cares or a paint exchange. Radford hasn’t posted that rule for city trash, so check with the Sanitation office first. Businesses and contractors can’t use the NRRA or MRSWA household events and need a commercial hazardous waste company.

Keep paint in its original can with the lid tight and the label readable. Sort oil-based paint, thinner and stain into their own box, and never mix products. Write down what you have before you call NRRA, so you can ask whether each item is taken. Don’t drive paint to Park Road; the Drop Center will refuse it.

Radford questions5
Can I take paint to the Radford Drop Center on Park Road?

No. The city lists paint, oil and hazardous materials as items the Drop Center doesn’t accept.

When is the next hazardous waste day for Radford?

NRRA’s 2026 event was Saturday, August 1, 2026 in Dublin. No later date was posted when we checked on October 16, 2026. Call NRRA at 540-674-1677 to ask about the next one.

Can I put dried latex paint in my Radford trash?

Radford’s solid waste pages don’t say. Ask the Sanitation/Recycling office at 540-731-3605, option 2, before you set it out.

Can Radford residents use the Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority event?

MRSWA says its November 7, 2026 event is for residents within Montgomery County only. If you aren’t sure whether your address counts, call 540-381-2820 before you go.

Does Radford pick up paint with special collection?

The city’s paid special collection covers debris, appliances and furniture. Paint isn’t on that list. Special collection is booked through Utility Billing at 540-731-3602.

Sources and how we checked12

October 16, 2026: read the City of Radford’s Drop Center page (1800 Park Road, Radford residents only, no contractors or businesses, paint, oil and hazardous materials not accepted), Recycling page (George Street and Park Road sites, paint not accepted, MRSWA single-stream guidelines), Solid Waste page (special collection rates) and Solid Waste & Recycling page (Sanitation/Recycling Supervisor, 540-731-3605 option 2). Read NRRA’s home page (7100 Cloyds Mountain Road, Dublin; 540-674-1677; Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–4 p.m.), its hazardous waste day page (August 1, 2026, 9 a.m.–noon, by appointment, no commercial waste or vehicles) and board page (members from Radford, Pulaski, Giles, Dublin and MRSWA). NRRA’s accepted-wastes PDF is a scanned image and couldn’t be read as text. Read NRRA’s rates page (no paint line). Read MRSWA’s home page (November 7, 2026 event, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., Montgomery County residents only, address Christiansburg 24073) and Disposal Guide (paint only at events, twice a year; latex drying preferred; no electronics or batteries at the events, which conflicts with the home page). PaintCare’s listing #13744 is the source for the Saturday, the 555 Authority Drive location and booking from September 28, 2026. PaintCare’s locator data lists an MRSWA collection event at Radford University’s Student Outdoor Recreation Complex (309 E Main St) with “November 2025” text; MRSWA’s page gives no location, so we didn’t use it. Unresolved: whether Radford allows dried latex in city trash; which paints NRRA takes at its event; NRRA’s 2027 date; any fee.
