THE LOCAL ANSWERTake paint to the free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at 2750 Patterson Street, Monday to Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. It is for Guilford County households only, and it won’t take unlabeled, empty or leaking cans. The next Recycle Rodeo, which also takes paint, is April 10, 2027.
Greensboro and Guilford County share one free hazardous waste drop-off: the collection center at 2750 Patterson Street, near the Coliseum. It takes paint, stain and thinner six days a week from Guilford County households. North Carolina has no paint store take-back program.
Patterson Street is open six days
The center is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Sunday.
Don’t take paint to White Street
The city’s White Street Landfill turns away hazardous waste and screens loads at random. Paint goes to Patterson Street instead.
Only labeled cans
The center refuses unknown or unlabeled materials. If a label has worn off and you’re sure what’s inside, write it on the can. PaintCare’s listing says it won’t take empty, dried-out or leaking cans.
The Rodeo is the backup
The city runs a Recycle Rodeo each spring and fall that takes paint along with electronics and paper shredding. The city says the fall 2026 Rodeo took in 9,279 pounds of household hazardous waste, including electronics, paint and chemicals, from 345 cars. The next one is Saturday, April 10, 2027.
