THE LOCAL ANSWERDry out leftover paint with clay kitty litter or a paint hardener, then put it in your Meadville trash with the lid off, as the Crawford County Solid Waste Authority advises. Save paint you'd rather not dry, and thinner, for the county's next drive-thru event at the Crawford County Fairgrounds, 13291 Dickson Road. The 2026 events are over; call 814-333-7366 for the next date.
Meadville, in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, has no year-round paint drop-off. The Crawford County Solid Waste Authority holds drive-thru hazardous waste events at the fairgrounds. PaintCare's listing gives two 2026 dates, June 24 and October 14, and both are over. Until the next one, the county says to dry out small amounts of paint and put them in the trash with the lid off. The Erie guide covers Erie County's separate events, which are for Erie County households.
Both 2026 fairgrounds events are over
PaintCare's listing shows the 2026 Crawford County events were held at Gate 1 of the fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 24 and Wednesday, October 14, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Solid Waste Authority's own pages don't list the 2026 dates. It says it usually holds one event in June and one in September or October, and posts the sign-up link on countyrecycling.com when a date is set.
You pay by the pound, by card
The events are run by Noble Environmental. Its Crawford County sign-up form lists paint and stains at $1.55 a pound and other household hazardous waste at $2.05 a pound. It takes credit cards only. You stay in your car; staff unload and weigh your items in front of you.
The county's paint rule: lid off
The Solid Waste Authority says not to put liquid paint in the trash. Pour it into a sturdy box of clay-based kitty litter, or use a paint hardener from a local hardware store, and let it dry. Then put it out with the lid off so your trash crew can see it's solid.
Empty cans go with metal cans
Once a can is dry and empty, the county says it can be recycled with metal cans. Meadville's curbside recycling, run by Tri-County every other week, takes steel (tin) cans. Questions about Meadville trash and billing go to the Meadville Area Water Authority, 814-724-6057.
Erie County's events aren't for Meadville
Noble also runs Erie County's drive-thru days, but PaintCare lists those as for Erie County households only. Crawford County residents should wait for their own county's event.
