THE LOCAL ANSWER

PaintCare lists Stevens Paint & Blinds, 62 Bridge Street, at 5 gallons per visit; call 607-962-7112 before loading. Steuben’s 2026 hazardous waste dates are over, and the Erwin transfer station isn’t an everyday hazardous paint drop-off.

Corning has two PaintCare stores, Stevens on Bridge Street and Sherwin-Williams on West Pulteney Street. The county calendar mainly saves a wasted trip to Erwin.

Store hours don’t mean paint drop-off

Stevens has separate paint and blinds hours. PaintCare lists Stevens and the Sherwin-Williams at 360 West Pulteney Street at 5 gallons per visit each. Call the paint department during its hours about space.

The Erwin address means two things

Steuben’s 2026 flyer used the Erwin transfer station for a September 12 event, which is over. The station’s regular hours are for normal services and don’t make that event an ongoing drop-off.

Free pickup programs and other options

If Stevens is full, check the PaintCare locator. For solvents or refused products, call Steuben Solid Waste at 607-664-2460. The 2026 dates in Hornell, Bath and Erwin were all over on October 6; we haven’t guessed 2027. PaintCare’s free pickup starts at 100 gallons by can size and must be approved and booked. Keep paint in its own cans, not drums. Non-exempt New York businesses may qualify for an oil-paint pickup exception.

Keep labels showing and lids tight. Tell the store latex or oil, rough gallons and any doubtful product. Keep spray cans, thinner and empties apart; the county bans paint and spray cans from metal-can recycling.

Corning questions3
Can I take paint to Erwin during its Tuesday–Saturday hours?

No. Those are regular transfer hours, not paint or hazardous waste hours. The event there was September 12; ask the county where to go now.

Does Stevens still take old paint?

Yes. PaintCare lists it for households and businesses, 5 gallons per visit. Call first about space.

Where should a contractor’s leftover solvent go?

Not to a PaintCare store. Find a business hazardous waste company; household collections and paint stores don’t take business solvent.

Sources and how we checked10

On October 6, 2026 PaintCare listed Stevens (62 Bridge Street) and Sherwin-Williams (360 West Pulteney Street) at 5 gallons each; its Stevens phone is one digit off the store’s. Steuben showed no later 2026 date. No business solvent price was found.

Checked October 6, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
