The city says the landfill handles and buries solid waste from the Eastern New Mexico region. Because the city's pages never mention paint, call the landfill at 575-769-7852 (or Public Works at 575-769-2376) before you load any. NMED's landfill list gives the site as 2801 E Brady Ave. with a mailing address of 801 S. Norris Street. Emergency line: 575-769-2376.

Clovis rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

In Clovis, New Mexico, call the Clovis Regional Landfill at 575-769-7852 before you bring paint, and ask whether it takes latex, oil-based or both, and how to pack it. The landfill is free for Clovis city residents with proof of residence; non-residents and businesses pay by weight. Don't put paint in Curry County's rural roll-off containers; they're for non-hazardous waste only.

This guide is for Clovis in Curry County, New Mexico. The New Mexico Environment Department lists the city's Clovis Regional Landfill at 2801 E Brady St. as Curry County's household hazardous waste collection place, but the city's own pages don't say what paint it takes. Call before you go. New Mexico has no PaintCare program, so there is no PaintCare store drop-off network here.

The state lists the landfill, the city doesn't mention paint

NMED's 2025 list of household hazardous waste collection by county names the Clovis Regional Landfill for Curry County. The city's Landfill page, FAQ and Public Works page don't mention paint or hazardous waste. That's why a phone call comes first: 575-769-7852.

City residents use the landfill free

Residents inside city limits can use the landfill free for waste from their primary home, with proof of residence. Non-residents and businesses pay standard dumping fees by weight. The city's FAQ adds that certain items may have a fee, so ask about paint when you call.

Sunday and holiday hours

The landfill is open Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4:30 p.m. It stays open on July 4, Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day, closes early on Christmas Eve (3 p.m.) and is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Rural roll-offs are for non-hazardous waste

Curry County's Rural Rolloff Dump Program puts free 24/7 containers at the Broadview, Pleasant Hill (Texico) and Countyline fire departments. The county says they're for bulky items, household debris and other non-hazardous waste, so keep paint and thinner out.

The October free-dump weekend doesn't mention paint

For its Trek for Trash cleanup on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the city's Clean-ups page listed no dumping fees from noon Friday, October 16, 2026, until noon Monday, October 19, 2026, with residential tire dumping allowed (up to 9 per family). The page doesn't mention paint, so a fee-free window isn't a sign the landfill takes paint.

Free pickup programs and other options

New Mexico has no PaintCare program, and PaintCare's locator data has no New Mexico site in Curry County. The Clovis listing it does have is a Dunn-Edwards store in Clovis, California, for households and businesses in California, so it doesn't apply here. NMED's fact sheet says to contact your municipal, county, solid waste authority or tribal program. It says the free Albuquerque collection center is for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County residents. NMED's 2022 registry also lists the Melrose Transfer Station (3451 CR 11, 575-253-4274) and the Texico Transfer Station (910 Wheeler Ave., 575-482-3314) as Curry County collection centers, without saying what they accept. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 716 Gidding Street (Thursday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) takes new and gently used items but publishes no paint policy; call 575-935-0760 before donating paint.

Call 575-769-7852 first and ask three things: whether the landfill takes latex, oil-based paint or both; whether paint must be dried or kept in the can; and whether there's a fee for paint. If you live in city limits, bring proof of residence so your trip is free. NMED lists paint as a toxic household hazardous waste and turpentine as an ignitable one, so mention any thinner when you call. The city's pages give no drying or packing steps.

Sources and how we checked12

October 17, 2026: read the City of Clovis, NM Landfill page, landfill directory entry, FAQs, Public Works page, Clean-ups page (clovisnm.gov; the cityofclovis.org landfill link on NMED's list redirects to a clovisnm.gov address that returns 404). Also read NMED's 2025 HHW-by-county list, its 2025 HHW fact sheet, its May 2025 permitted landfill list and 2022 registered collection centers list, Curry County's December 5, 2025 roll-off release (opened in a browser), and the Clovis chamber and Habitat listings for the ReStore. The city code link goes to a Municode page that isn't available, and a city site search for 'hazardous' returned nothing. PaintCare data: no New Mexico listing near Clovis; record 13153 is Clovis, California. Facts genuinely run out here: no source says whether the landfill takes latex or oil-based paint, whether dried paint may go in city trash, or what it costs. Peer review (October 17, 2026): the free-dump window is now written in the past tense, and the guide claims nothing about paint that the city doesn't say. Unresolved: all three, plus what the Melrose and Texico transfer stations accept and the ReStore's paint policy. Needs a phone call to 575-769-7852.
