Paint recycling
in Nebraska.
Paint disposal in Omaha and Lincoln. Nebraska has no free paint recycling program, so you use your county’s household hazardous waste site, and the rules on latex paint differ by city.
Check your local rules.
Nebraska’s environment agency (now the Department of Water, Energy, and Environment, formerly NDEE) lists oil-based paint as household hazardous waste and says to use products up or give usable ones away first. It names local sites that collect it, including Under the Sink in Omaha, HazToGo in Lincoln, and sites in Grand Island, Kearney, Norfolk, North Platte, McCook and Holdrege. Latex is handled differently: Lincoln’s HazToGo won’t take it and says to dry it and put it in the garbage, while Omaha’s Under the Sink takes it for $1 a can. Most sites are for households only and serve only their own city or county.
No free state program.
Nebraska doesn’t have a statewide paint program, so it depends on your city or county. Each city guide shows where latex and oil-based paint can go.

In Lincoln, Nebraska, where your paint goes depends on the type. Oil-based paint and stain go free to HazToGo, the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department’s hazardous waste center at 5101 N. 48th St. Latex paint is not taken there at all: the health department says to dry it until solid and put it in your garbage. (This guide is for Lincoln, Nebraska, not Lincoln City, Oregon.)
