No sign-up or appointment. No lithium-ion batteries, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fireworks or explosives. A 2025 county event at Expo Gardens closed early because of the line, so leave extra time. The phone is the county Sustainability and Resource Conservation office (weekdays 8–4:30), not an event-day line. The county page says Alpha Park, Airport Rd; the notice gives 1525 W. Garfield Ave.

Leave them home. The 2026 notice bans latex and enamel paint, though the 2025 event took paint. Bring thinner, spray paint and solvents instead, and take house paint to PaintCare.
That FAQ covers an earlier event at 1601 W. Northmoor Road with 15-minute slots. The July 2026 notice says no sign-up or appointment is needed and lists Alpha Park for October 10. Go by the 2026 notice.
Peoria County lists no more 2026 collections, and the state's East Peoria event was in March. Illinois EPA still has Springfield on October 17 and Decatur on October 24, open to any Illinois resident who signs up. Otherwise, keep the thinner sealed until the 2027 dates come out.
The county events refuse business waste. In Illinois, PaintCare lets businesses bring oil-based and latex paint to drop-off sites, 5 gallons a visit. At 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare for a free pickup.
House paint (latex or oil-based), stain and varnish: a PaintCare drop-off. The county's 2026 events refuse latex and enamel. Thinner, spray paint and other chemicals: the county's last listed 2026 collection, Saturday, October 10, 7 a.m.–noon, at Alpha Park in Bartonville. Peoria County residents only; no appointment. After that, watch the county's hazardous waste page for new dates.
Peoria has no year-round household hazardous waste site. Peoria County and GFL hold a few seasonal collections, and in 2026 they don't take latex or enamel paint. So house paint goes to a PaintCare store, and the county event is for thinner, spray paint and other chemicals.
At the August 2025 Expo Gardens event, GFL reported taking latex and oil-based paint. The 2026 notice bans latex and enamel paint and sends house paint to PaintCare stores all year. Don't go by last year's photos.
The August 8 Pottstown and September 12 Chillicothe collections have passed. Only Alpha Park, 1525 W. Garfield Avenue in Bartonville, remains, on October 10.
The August 2025 Expo Gardens collection had to stop early so staff could serve everyone already in line. With a noon finish, come early with items boxed, labeled and ready to hand over.
East Peoria, Pekin, Morton and Washington are in Tazewell County, so Peoria County's events don't cover them. Illinois EPA's one-day East Peoria collection at Illinois Central College was March 21, 2026, and has passed. The state's other fall 2026 events are far from Peoria.
PaintCare lists stores in Peoria, East Peoria, Pekin, Morton and Washington, 5 gallons per visit; call first. Thinner, spray paint and marine paint wait for a county collection. At 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare for a free pickup.

Sort house paint (PaintCare store) from thinner, spray cans and other chemicals (county event). Keep everything in original, clearly labeled containers, and don't combine leftovers. Leave lithium-ion batteries and propane tanks home; the county refuses them.
Full preparation checklist →No. The county's 2026 list bans latex and enamel paint. Take house paint to a PaintCare drop-off.
Not in 2026; the county says no sign-up is needed. An older county FAQ about booked slots was for an earlier event.

Checked October 6, 2026; no calls or visits. Still open: the 2026 county notice gives no phone or fee. The county's web page lists marine paint as accepted, but the notice doesn't. We don't know if the county will post a 2027 schedule. Illinois EPA lists no year-round site near Peoria.
