Which option fits your Cumming cleanout?4

You have a garage full of liquid cleaners and pesticides too

The centers don't take liquid cleaners, pesticides or fertilizers. The county gives two choices: soak them up in kitty litter or rags, let them dry, and bag them as trash (the bag fee applies), or bring them to the twice-a-year event. Bring paint and chemicals together on Nov. 7 if you registered.

Cumming rules and tips5
THE LOCAL ANSWER

Take paint, liquid or dried, to a Forsyth County recycling center such as 351 Tolbert St. in Cumming, Monday to Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and bring cash: $1 to $10 per can for latex and $1 to $15 for oil-based. It's for Forsyth County residents only. For free disposal, register for the Nov. 7, 2026 hazardous waste event at Freedom Park Campus.

Cumming is the county seat of Forsyth County, Georgia, north of Atlanta. Forsyth County doesn't run a free hazardous waste site. Instead, its recycling convenience centers take latex and oil-based paint every day but Sunday for a small cash fee per can. Twice a year, Keep Forsyth County Beautiful holds a free hazardous waste event that requires registration.

Pay per can, in cash

Forsyth County charges for paint by container size. Latex: $1 for a quart or smaller, $3 for a gallon, $5 for a 2-gallon bucket, $10 for a 5-gallon bucket. Oil-based: $1 a pint, $2 a quart, $4 a gallon, $15 for 5 gallons. The centers take cash only.

Two centers are in Cumming

Tolbert Street (351 Tolbert St.) is near downtown, and Coal Mountain (3560 Settingdown Rd.) is in the north end. Both are listed by PaintCare for paint. The third center, at 3678 Old Atlanta Road in Suwanee, is on the county's list too. The county's paint fees aren't limited to certain centers the way tires and electronics are, but PaintCare doesn't list Old Atlanta, so call 770-205-3010 before you take paint there.

The free option needs a reservation

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful's fall hazardous waste event is Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 2435 Freedom Pkwy. Registration is set for Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at 9 a.m. online, and spots are limited. Paint is capped at 10 gallons per vehicle. It's free, with a suggested $5 donation.

City crews won't take paint

The City of Cumming Street Department gives free curb pickup inside city limits on Mondays and Wednesdays, but its guidelines say it does not pick up paint or hazardous materials. Outside city limits, the county has no curbside trash service; you use a private hauler or the centers.

Closed days to plan around

The centers close Sundays and on county holidays: Nov. 11, Nov. 26 and 27, and Dec. 24 and 25, 2026. The county also says that starting November 15, 770-205-4573 will be the phone number for all its recycling centers.

Free pickup programs and other options

Georgia has no PaintCare program, so paint stores don't take old paint back for free. The Atlanta options, such as CHaRM, are a separate system; Forsyth County residents have their own centers close to home. Usable paint can go to a neighbor, school or community group. Painting businesses can't use the convenience centers or the event, since both are for household waste only; they need a private hazardous waste company.

Keep paint in its original can; the centers take paint only in original containers and turn away leaking cans. Count your cans by size and bring the right amount of cash. For the November event, finish registering before you load the car and keep the total to 10 gallons of paint.

Cumming questions5
Does Forsyth County take latex paint?

Yes. Its recycling centers take liquid or dried latex and oil-based paint and stain in original containers, for a small cash fee per can.

How much does it cost to drop off a gallon of paint?

$3 for a gallon of latex and $4 for a gallon of oil-based paint. A 5-gallon bucket is $10 for latex and $15 for oil-based.

Is there a free paint drop-off in Cumming?

Only at the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful hazardous waste event, Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at 2435 Freedom Pkwy. You must register online, and paint is limited to 10 gallons per vehicle.

Will the City of Cumming pick up old paint at the curb?

No. The Street Department's guidelines say it does not pick up paint or hazardous materials.

Can I use the centers if I live in Alpharetta or Dawsonville?

Only if your home is in Forsyth County. The centers and the event are for Forsyth County residents only, so homes in the City of Alpharetta (Fulton County) or Dawsonville (Dawson County) can't use them.

Sources and how we checked8

Checked October 16, 2026: Forsyth County's recycling centers page (paint fees, cash only, hours, three center addresses, 2026 holidays, phone change starting November 15, no hazardous liquids), its waste haulers page (no county curbside, City of Cumming contact 770-781-2019), the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful event page (Nov. 7, 2026, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., registration opens Oct. 19 at 9 a.m., 10-gallon paint limit), the City of Cumming Street Department page and its May 9, 2022 guidelines (no paint), Georgia EPD, and PaintCare's listings. Unresolved: whether the Old Atlanta Road center in Suwanee takes paint (the county lists paint without naming centers; PaintCare lists only Tolbert Street and Coal Mountain); the event address ZIP (30041 on the event page, 30040 on PaintCare); the year of the November 15 phone change (the county doesn't say). We found no Forsyth County paint reuse shelf. Peer review (October 16, 2026): the county takes dried paint, while PaintCare's listings say no dry containers, so the guide tells you to call first about dried cans.

Checked October 16, 2026 against these sources, not by phone. How we research.
