Don’t assume paint is free; the PaintCare note and fee list conflict, so ask about your product. Check Saturday opening and your amount first.
300 Puppy Smith Street, Aspen, CO
Don’t assume it takes other chemicals or that paint is free. Its page seems to have a wrong ZIP, so we list street and city only.
4 paint stores and 1 hazardous waste site, closest first. Paint stores take house paint, stain and varnish, usually up to a set amount per visit. Hazardous waste sites also take chemicals like thinner, but some only serve local residents. Call before you go.

From PaintCare’s drop-off map ↗, updated October 6, 2026. Hours and limits are PaintCare’s. Distances are straight-line, not driving.
Timberline Ace’s Aspen page lists paint recycling at 300 Puppy Smith Street, 970-925-3031, open 8 am–5 pm daily. Ask what it takes, how much and the charge. Open doesn’t mean there’s room.
Pitkin’s site prices paint, related materials, spray cans and unknown chemicals differently. Call 970-429-2880 for a price and ask which PaintCare products are free before loading. The website’s general paint fee won’t price every can.
Pitkin limits businesses to twenty-five gallons a month and needs bigger loads set up ahead. Get business screening before driving. The free Basalt High School event on June 13, 2026 has passed.
Pitkin County’s year-round hazardous waste center takes paint, but it lists both PaintCare and a paint fee, so ask which applies. Timberline Ace in Aspen also says it recycles paint. Call both before choosing.
Aspen has a year-round hazardous waste site at the Pitkin County Solid Waste Center. It takes PaintCare paint but also has a hazardous materials price list, so call about your products.
The center calls itself a PaintCare site but also lists per-pound paint charges. Ask if your house paint is free under PaintCare, and get prices for solvents and other products.
Both county pages say the gate closes 11:45 am Saturday but differ on opening time. Go on a weekday, or call first if Saturday is your only day.
For a small house paint load, check PaintCare’s map for a store. Businesses use the center’s Tuesday and Thursday appointments, not the household line.

List products and container sizes before calling. Keep labeled cans closed and upright. Tell staff about unknowns so they can price and sort them.
Full preparation checklist →No. The center takes hazardous waste year-round during open hours.
No. Only very small businesses, with a Tuesday or Thursday appointment.
Ask Pitkin whether your paint is free under PaintCare, what paint costs and Saturday opening. Check Timberline Ace’s limits and fees.
