Everything you need to get rid of leftover paint responsibly in Visalia.

335 N. Cain Street, Visalia, CA 93292
The city says not to get out of your vehicle. Not taken: commercial or agricultural waste, ammunition and explosives, asbestos, compressed gas, helium tanks, large BBQ propane tanks, sharps, radioactive items like smoke detectors, and narcotic medicine. PaintCare lists the site's phone as 559-713-4531; the county flyer gives that number as Visalia's battery drop-off line, so use 559-713-4428 for this site.
1501 S. Mooney Blvd., Visalia, CA 93277
No spray paint or other aerosols, and no unlabeled, leaking or empty containers. Thinner and spray cans go to Cain Street on a Saturday.
12094 Avenue 408, Cutler, CA 93615
It's north of Visalia, between Cutler and Orosi. The county flyer and PaintCare disagree on paint type, days and limits, so call 559-528-3909 before bringing oil-based paint or more than 5 gallons.
4 paint stores and 1 hazardous waste site, closest first. Paint stores take house paint, stain and varnish, usually up to a set amount per visit. Hazardous waste sites also take chemicals like thinner, but some only serve local residents. Call before you go.

That's over Cain Street's 5-gallon limit. Take it to Dunn-Edwards on Mooney or Nelson's Ace on Walnut, which each take up to 20 gallons. Call first to check they have room.
PaintCare stores won't take thinner or spray cans. Bring all three to Cain Street on a Saturday morning and stay in your car.
Peña's Disposal in Cutler takes latex paint. The county flyer says Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; PaintCare lists weekdays and Saturday mornings and says oil-based house paint too, so call 559-528-3909 first. Thinner and spray cans still need the Saturday trip to Visalia.
The Nov. 14, 2026 event takes household hazardous waste plus bulky items, 7 a.m. to noon. Bring your Visalia utility bill, cover your load and expect a wait.
Bring paint, thinner and spray cans to 335 N. Cain St. on a Saturday, 8 a.m.–noon; it's free for Tulare County residents, up to 5 gallons or 50 pounds a visit, and you stay in your car. For bigger loads of house paint, Dunn-Edwards on South Mooney Boulevard and Nelson's Ace Hardware on West Walnut Avenue each take up to 20 gallons. Call 559-713-4428 with questions.
Visalia, in Tulare County, has one full household hazardous waste drop-off: the city corporation yard at 335 N. Cain Street, run with the county. It's free for Tulare County residents but only open Saturday mornings, and it limits you to 5 gallons a visit. On weekdays, or with more house paint than that, PaintCare stores on Mooney Boulevard and Walnut Avenue take up to 20 gallons.
Cain Street is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and closed on holidays. On Dump On Us Saturdays it opens at 7 a.m. and gates close at noon; the next one is Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026.
The county flyer caps each visit at 5 gallons or 50 pounds. If you have more house paint, split it between Cain Street and a PaintCare store that takes 20 gallons.
The county flyer lists two recycle-only sites that take latex paint, antifreeze, batteries and motor oil only: Peña's Disposal in Cutler (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.) and the Porterville Corporation Yard at 555 N. Prospect St. (third Saturday of the month, 8 a.m.–noon). PaintCare also lists Peña's for oil-based house paint, stain and varnish, so call 559-528-3909 first. Thinner and spray cans go to Visalia or a county mobile event.
The City of Tulare tells its own residents they can soak up leftover latex paint with kitty litter and put it in the gray cart, then put the dry, empty can in the blue cart. Oil-based paint still has to go to a hazardous waste site. Visalia's page doesn't give that option, so ask 559-713-4428 before drying paint in Visalia.
Dump On Us events at the same yard take household hazardous waste along with bulky items, metal and mattresses. Bring a City of Visalia utility bill to show you live in the city. Box and moving trucks aren't allowed, and waits can run 30 minutes.
PaintCare lists three Visalia stores for house paint: Dunn-Edwards at 1501 S. Mooney Blvd. and Nelson's Ace Hardware at 2230 W. Walnut Ave. (20 gallons each), and PPG Paints at 2010 E. Mineral King Ave. (5 gallons). Dinuba Ace Lumber, 441 W. Tulare St., and Sherwin-Williams, 1212 W. Olive Ave. in Porterville, also take 20. For county mobile events, call Tulare County Environmental Health at 559-624-7400. With 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare for a free pickup.

Keep paint in its original, sealed, labeled can and don't mix products. Load no more than 5 gallons or 50 pounds for Cain Street. Put cans where staff can reach them, since you stay in your vehicle.
Full preparation checklist →Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon, except holidays. On Dump On Us days it runs 7 a.m. to noon.
Yes. The program is free for any Tulare County resident. The Visalia city utility bill is only needed for Dump On Us events.
Yes, at Cain Street, along with thinner, lacquer and spray cans. The county flyer says the Cutler and Porterville sites take latex only, though PaintCare lists Peña's in Cutler for oil-based house paint too. PaintCare stores take both latex and oil-based house paint.
No. It's for households only. PaintCare stores take house paint from businesses. For other business waste, call Tulare County Environmental Health at 559-624-7400.
October 15, 2026: read the City of Visalia's household hazardous waste and Dump On Us pages (in a browser), its July 2026 household hazardous waste flyer (PDF, read in a browser), the City of Tulare's hazardous waste page, and PaintCare's locator data for Tulare County. The flyer gives 5 gallons or 50 pounds per visit; PaintCare also lists 5 gallons. PaintCare lists 559-713-4531 and 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; the flyer gives 559-713-4531 as the battery drop-off line, so we use the city's current page (559-713-4428, 8 a.m.–noon). Peer review (Oct. 15): PaintCare does list Peña's Disposal in Cutler, for latex and oil-based paint, 20 gallons, Monday–Friday 8–5 and Saturday 8–3, which conflicts with the flyer (latex only, Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday); the guide now shows both. The Porterville yard comes only from the flyer. We found no 2026 mobile-event dates on an official page; readers are sent to Tulare County Environmental Health. The latex-drying advice is the City of Tulare's, not Visalia's. Store hours weren't checked.
