Morgan Road is closed to households that day. Take house paint to a PaintCare store such as the Habitat ReStore on Tenaya Drive, and hold thinner and chemicals for a Friday or Saturday morning at the county site.
That's over Morgan Road's 15-gallon limit. The ReStore on Tenaya Drive is listed for up to 50 gallons of house paint in one visit; call ahead. Or split it into two county trips.
Don't bring it on a weekend. Call 209-525-6700 to check you qualify as a very small business and book a Wednesday slot, or use a PaintCare site that takes business paint.
Newman's 2026 pop-up event is Saturday, Oct. 17; Patterson's was Oct. 3. The county doesn't post the event address, so call 209-525-6789. After that, county residents use Morgan Road. PaintCare also lists a Sherwin-Williams store at 1065 Sperry Ave. in Patterson for up to 20 gallons.
Bring paint to the Stanislaus County HHW Facility, 1710 Morgan Rd., on a Friday or Saturday, 8 a.m.–noon (7:30–11:30 a.m. June–August); it's free for county residents, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds. On other days, use a PaintCare store; the Habitat ReStore on Tenaya Drive is listed for up to 50 gallons. Call the hotline at 209-525-6789 to confirm the facility is open.
In Modesto, Stanislaus County runs the household hazardous waste facility at County Center IV, 1710 Morgan Road. It's free for county residents but only open Friday and Saturday mornings. On Saturdays it also hosts Reuse Day, when residents can take free leftover paint.
Morgan Road is open to households Friday and Saturday mornings only. It's closed Friday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Dec. 25, 2026. In June–August it opens and closes half an hour early because of the heat.
Before the drop-off line opens on Saturday, county residents can take free latex and oil-based paint, oil and antifreeze that others left. Bring a California photo ID showing you live in Stanislaus County. It's for personal use, not resale, and businesses can't take part. Reuse Day is closed on Oct. 17, 2026.
Painters, contractors and other small businesses that make up to 220 pounds (27 gallons) of hazardous waste a month can book a Wednesday appointment at 209-525-6700. The facility turns business waste away on Fridays and Saturdays.
The county held 2026 temporary events in Oakdale, Turlock, Riverbank, Newman, Patterson, Hughson and Waterford, Fridays or Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon or until full, with the same 15-gallon or 125-pound load limit. Patterson's last one was Oct. 3. The last listed is Newman on Saturday, Oct. 17. The county page doesn't give event addresses, so call the hotline at 209-525-6789. Electronics, light bulbs and flares aren't taken at these events.
PaintCare stores take house paint free on days Morgan Road is closed. The Habitat ReStore on Tenaya Drive is listed for 50 gallons a visit; Dunn-Edwards on West Orangeburg Avenue for 20; others take less, so check PaintCare's map. For 100 gallons or more, ask PaintCare about a free pickup.

Leave paint in its original labeled can, and make sure the lid is tight and the can isn't leaking. Stay under 15 gallons or 125 pounds. Throw completely empty cans in your trash. Arrive early; the Friday and Saturday window is only four hours.
Full preparation checklist →Only Friday mornings for households. Wednesdays are for business appointments. Monday through Thursday, a PaintCare store is your option for house paint.
Yes, if you live in Stanislaus County. Drop-off is free for county residents. The county doesn't say it takes waste from other counties.
A California photo ID that shows you live in Stanislaus County. Adults without one, or who live outside the county, can't take part.
The county's accepted list doesn't name spray cans, so call 209-525-6700 to ask. Compressed gas cylinders are on its not-accepted list.
October 13, 2026: read Stanislaus County's Household Hazardous Waste Program page and its solid waste FAQ, and checked PaintCare's locator data for Modesto and nearby towns. The program page still shows an old 2020 notice at the top; we used its 2026 hours, holiday closures, Reuse Day closures and event list. Unresolved: the FAQ gives 1716 Morgan Road in one answer and 1710 in another; we use 1710, which the program page and PaintCare both list. The county doesn't say whether spray cans are taken. Business fees are in a county fee schedule PDF we did not summarize. Habitat's own site doesn't describe paint drop-off and calls the street Tenaya Avenue (PaintCare says Tenaya Drive); the ReStore paint details come from PaintCare. Peer review (Oct. 13): the program page doesn't list business fees or say whether out-of-county households are turned away, and doesn't give pop-up event addresses; wording now says so. Newman's Oct. 17 event must be moved to past tense after it passes.
