Book At Your Door online or by phone and list the items. When the kit arrives, bag the sealed cans and the thinner in their original containers. Set the bag by the garage before 7 a.m. on your date.
Bring your photo ID and a paper utility bill, and stay under 2 cubic yards and 2,000 pounds for the free monthly load. Leave the paint cans home and schedule a WM pickup for them.
You can't use Farmington's WM pickup. Use the county's hazardous waste day at 100 S. Oliver Dr. in Aztec, with proof of residency. The fall 2026 day on October 10 has passed, so call 505-334-7700 and ask when the next one is.
WM won't take unlabeled items. If you know what's in the can, write it on the can or use a kit label. If you don't know, don't guess; call WM at 1-800-449-7587 first.
Book a free WM At Your Door pickup at WMAtYourDoor.com or 1-800-449-7587; WM mails a kit and picks up your paint at home. It's part of your Farmington trash bill. Don't take liquid paint to the San Juan County Landfill or a county collection day; both turn it away from Farmington residents.
Farmington, New Mexico, has no paint drop-off. Instead, city trash customers can book a free home pickup through WM's At Your Door service, and WM collects paint, stain, thinner and spray paint from your doorstep. San Juan County's hazardous waste days are for Bloomfield, Kirtland and the rest of the county, not Farmington or Aztec.
The City of Farmington contracts with WM for trash. The city says "AT-HOME COLLECTION IS FREE" and "This service is included in your waste bill." Order a kit, put your sealed, labeled cans in the bag, and set it out before 7 a.m. on your pickup day. WM takes paint and stain cans up to 5 gallons, spray paint, thinner and stripper. It won't take dried-out or empty cans.
San Juan County holds a free hazardous waste day at 100 S. Oliver Dr. in Aztec (its rules say spring and fall). The fall 2026 day was October 10 and has passed. It is only for Bloomfield, Kirtland and unincorporated county residents, and the county page says no waste from Aztec or Farmington.
Farmington residents can take 2 cubic yards of trash a month free to the San Juan County Regional Landfill, 78 County Road 3140, with a photo ID and a paper utility bill. Liquids, paints, pesticides and batteries are not allowed. Haul the rest of the garage there and book a pickup for the paint.
The city's Fall Dumpster Weekend is set for October 17 and 18, 2026, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Berg Park (Scott Ave. and San Juan Blvd.). It takes dried paint but not liquid paint, household chemicals or car fluids. You need a photo ID and a paper electric bill from the last 60 days that shows city sanitation charges.
Aztec also contracts with WM and lists the same At Your Door number, 800-449-7587. Bloomfield, Kirtland and rural residents use the county's spring and fall collection days. County convenience stations, such as Lee Acres and Kirtland, refuse liquids and lead-based paint.
New Mexico has no PaintCare program, so stores don't take leftover paint back. The New Mexico Environment Department sends people to local programs. The nearest PaintCare stores are across the state line in Durango, Colorado, but PaintCare lists them for Colorado households and businesses, so ask before bringing New Mexico paint. Businesses can't use At Your Door or the county day and need a hazardous waste company. Give good paint to a neighbor or a school.

Keep paint in its original can with the lid on tight. If a label is gone, write what's inside on the can with a marker (for example, "LATEX PAINT"); WM won't take unlabeled items. Don't pour paint into the bag or mix products. Keep the bag dry and in sight of the street on pickup day.

No. The city's rules for Farmington residents list paints and liquids as prohibited at the landfill.
Not from Farmington. The county page says it takes no waste from Aztec or Farmington; those cities have curbside pickup. The day is for Bloomfield, Kirtland and unincorporated county residents.
Yes. WM's list includes spray paint, paint thinner, mineral spirits and paint stripper, as long as containers are sealed and labeled.
The city's Dumpster Weekend, set for October 17 and 18, 2026, lists dried paint as accepted and liquid paint as not accepted. WM's pickup won't take dried-out cans. The city doesn't say whether dried paint can go in your regular trash cart.
Checked October 16, 2026: the City of Farmington Sanitation Utilities page (At Your Door included in the WM contract; landfill rules for residents), the Farmington Clean & Beautiful page (Fall Dumpster Weekend October 17 and 18, 2026, dried paint yes, liquid paint no), the city's 2019 At Your Door flyer (PDF, read as text), WM At Your Door's accepted-items and how-it-works pages, San Juan County's Household Hazardous Waste page (fall day October 10, 2026; no Farmington or Aztec waste), the county Solid Waste page (landfill address, hours, convenience-station rules), the City of Aztec solid waste page, NMED's HHW fact sheet and PaintCare's locator data (record 15238, households only). The San Juan County link bit.ly/COFsanitation points to an old fmtn.org address that returns 404; the live page is on farmingtonnm.gov. Not settled: whether WM limits how much paint one pickup can take (WM only says to call for a second bag or appointment); spring 2027 county date; whether dried latex can go in the regular cart (the city only says dried paint is accepted at Dumpster Weekend). After October 18, 2026, rewrite the Dumpster Weekend in the past tense.
