701 E Jackson St, Macomb, IL 61455
On East Jackson Street east of the Courthouse Square, so it's the closer of Macomb's two stores for downtown and WIU renters. We found no drop-off for thinner or spray cans in McDonough County.
2300 E Jackson St, Macomb, IL 61455
On the east edge of town on East Jackson Street. Handy if you're coming in from Bushnell, Bardolph or Prairie City on the east side of the county.
East Sixth Progress Street, Decatur, IL 62521
A long trip from Macomb: about 100 miles in a straight line. The only later stop on Illinois EPA's fall list is Lockport (Will County) on October 31. The phone is Macon County Environmental Management, the local co-sponsor. Stay in your car; workers unload it.

Walk the cans to Sherwin-Williams on East Jackson, just east of the square. Bring them in their original cans with labels; the store can turn away unlabeled or leaking ones. Leave spray paint out; PaintCare sites don't take it.
There's no PaintCare site in either town. Plan one trip to Macomb: RP Lumber on the east side is easiest from Bushnell, and Sherwin-Williams is closer to downtown. At 5 gallons per store, you can drop 10 gallons in one trip.
Quincy's was September 19 and East Moline's was October 10. If you can make the drive, sign up for Decatur's collection set for October 24. Otherwise store thinner and spray paint sealed and out of the heat until a 2027 date is announced.
The spring clean-up (May 11–14, 2026) excluded paint, thinner, stain and varnish, and Waste Management can refuse anything it sees as a hazard. Take paint to a PaintCare store instead.
Take latex or oil-based house paint, stain and varnish to Sherwin-Williams (701 E Jackson St) or RP Lumber (2300 E Jackson St) in Macomb; both are free PaintCare drop-offs, 5 gallons per visit. Waste Management's city pickup doesn't take paint or liquids. McDonough County has no 2026 chemical collection, so keep thinner and spray paint sealed or sign up for Decatur's Illinois EPA collection set for October 24.
In Macomb (McDonough County, Illinois), leftover house paint goes free to Sherwin-Williams or RP Lumber, both on East Jackson Street and both listed by PaintCare. The city's Waste Management carts and its spring city-wide clean-up don't take paint or other liquids. McDonough County has no hazardous waste collection this year, so thinner and spray cans have to wait or travel.
Sherwin-Williams (701 E Jackson St) is the one closer to the Courthouse Square. RP Lumber (2300 E Jackson St) is on the east edge of town. Both take latex and oil-based paint, stain and varnish in labeled cans, 5 gallons a visit.
The city's pickup rules list paints, oils, gasoline, liquids and hazardous materials as items Waste Management won't collect. The city adds that liquid and household hazardous wastes are not collected. Questions go to Macomb Public Works at 309-833-2821, weekdays 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Macomb's 2026 spring city-wide clean-up ran May 11–14, with a second Monday-route pickup on May 18. The city's clean-up guidelines exclude paint, thinner, stain, varnish and any free-flowing liquid. Don't hold paint for next year's clean-up.
PaintCare lists no site in Bushnell, Colchester, Blandinsville, Industry, Good Hope or Prairie City, so Macomb's two stores serve the whole county. The next closest are about 34 to 36 miles away in a straight line: Kassing Lumber in Mount Sterling, Ace Hardware of Havana, and Sherwin-Williams and RP Lumber in Canton. Iowa's hazardous waste sites across the river in Fort Madison and West Burlington are only for residents of their own Iowa areas.
Illinois EPA's nearby stops this year were all held: Griggsville (April 11), Quincy (September 19) and East Moline (October 10). Two fall stops in central Illinois remain: Springfield (set for October 17) and Decatur (set for October 24, sign-up required), about 100 miles away in a straight line.
If you're heading toward Canton or Quincy anyway, those towns each have more PaintCare stores (Canton has two; Quincy's three are on Broadway). Galesburg has RP Lumber on US Hwy 150 E and Sherwin-Williams on Promenade Ct, about 37 to 38 miles north in a straight line. For 100 gallons or more, PaintCare offers a free large-volume pickup. Otherwise keep thinner and spray paint sealed until a 2027 collection is posted near you.

Leave paint in the original can with its label, and tap the lid shut. Stores won't take unlabeled or leaking cans, so pour nothing together. Put spray cans and thinner in their own box and store them cool and dry. Call the store before loading the car.
Full preparation checklist →Sherwin-Williams at 701 E Jackson St (309-833-2842) or RP Lumber at 2300 E Jackson St (309-837-9911). Both are free PaintCare drop-offs and take up to 5 gallons per visit.
The city's rules say paints and liquids are not collected, and they don't make an exception for dried paint. Ask Public Works at 309-833-2821, or take the can to a PaintCare store, which takes latex free.
None is posted for 2026. Illinois EPA's nearby 2026 collections in Griggsville, Quincy and East Moline have already happened. Springfield's is set for October 17 and Decatur's for October 24.
Sherwin-Williams at 701 E Jackson St is the closer of Macomb's two drop-offs to campus and downtown. Bring cans with labels, up to 5 gallons.
No. PaintCare drop-offs and Illinois EPA collections are free.
Checked October 16, 2026; no calls or visits. The City of Macomb's business-office page and the city/Waste Management pickup guidelines say paints, liquids and household hazardous waste aren't collected. The city's 2026 dates flyer lists the May 11–14 clean-up; the clean-up guidelines PDF lists paint among excluded items. We found no McDonough County Health Department or county hazardous waste page. A 2005 news report described a Tri-County paint recycling center in Macomb; we couldn't find evidence it runs today, so it's not used. We found no Illinois EPA collection in Macomb in 2026. Iowa sites near Burlington and Fort Madison serve only their own counties, per PaintCare's data. Store hours weren't confirmed. The city doesn't say whether fully dried latex may go in the cart.
